Not trying to be an ass, but I didn't get any real critique from your posts. You talked about possible messaging, which I will say that I thought about, but did not think it was front and center or too preach either. I think it's awful based on the movie itself. As I mentioned, the acting, the story, two of "the ones", etc... I wasn't impressed with the FX either, but they weren't terrible. At least the previous movies had a reason for the FX sucking. You said that they didn't put together a thoughtles reboot and (reboot comment aside) I felt it actually was rather thoughtless. I felt you could tell that Reeves, Moss, the Wachowskis, etc... didn't want to be there. WB said they were going to make it with or without them and they decided to sign on for an easy paycheck where they got to make fun of the idea. That's a cute little 'stick to the man' thing, but made for a bad movie.

Honestly, a reboot would be interesting, with the right director. I think Nolan could probably do a lot if WB said "here, do what you want with it".

This guy pretty much sums my opinion up pretty well.

The only thing I said about the messaging was in response to other people complaining about it, that aspect is there and you can either care or not, it doesn’t have anything to do with the quality.

I liked the way they approached revisiting the characters in the future. As I’ve said, I appreciated the self aware tone of the whole thing. I didn’t know what to expect going in, and it ended up not disappointing even with that. It definitely furthered the story, you say it didn’t, but it seems like you just don’t like the way it did. See the bolded spoiler in your response for proof.

A reboot would be lame, seeing some of the original team comment on their own work is way more compelling.

It didn't further the story, it made things up that made no sense. The concept of "the one" explicitly implies (lol) there is one and not two. That is a story mistake. Now I believe they did it in a way to make fun of the story as well as to push 'women can do it all' nonsense, but neither reason justifies a stupid story mistake in my opinion and neither help/assist in furthering anything. It "resurrected" Neo and Trinity... how? Don't need an answer, they are machines, just saying it makes it possible. Some things in movies needs to be forgiven (i.e. the flux capacitor), so let's pretend to forgive that. Then the story says that Neo and Trinities love is what holds the matrix together.... fucking what? 1) That is a completely retarded concept. 2) It doesn't make sense. Remember the first film? Seemed like the matrix had no problem continuing on just fine without Mr. Anderson and Trinity even meeting. Morpheus and other characters talk about how long they were trying to find him. 3) It doesn't further anything as it doesn't address the old or mean anything to the now in terms of story. 4) Clearly had no basis on the first 3 movies.

It isn't that I didn't like it (which I didn't), it is that it didn't further the story. It was a nonsensical addition that furthered nothing. It's hardly a continuation of the story even, it was more of a 'make it up as we go'. Even with all new characters it would have been a bad story.

Why would a reboot necessarily be lame? The original stroy is compelling enough that the right director could tell a similar albeit new story and make it good and interesting (i.e. The Dark Knight).


Watching a handful of the original team comment on their own work is "way" more compelling?

I'm sorry, no. In my opinion, Matrix 4 is worse.... I might even go as far to say considerably worse than Matrix 3.

Again, I watched 2, 3, and 4 all in the same night, mostly because I wanted to recall the story leading into the 4th. Didn't need to watch the 1st since I have seen that one so many times.

I'm really only basing my opinion on being able to make it through the movie. I couldn't even finish 3. Shut it off half way through it was so bad and haven't ever tried watching it again.
