The Misery Index - Oregon, Texas, Florida at the top

Ever the optimist duckie. That is a good year...but you can't tell me the duck faithful weren't expecting a CFP spot.
Not at the start of the season

Chip beat LSU. Mullen lost to LSU.
This season, yes. Past seasons Mullen got plenty of wins. Including LSU when they were a good team.

ole Chip lost plenty in that time frame. You honestly think he is good?

It’s kinda funny that Chip Kelly and Scott Frost, the top two coaching picks last round, still have their jobs and are worse than Mullen.

different standards I suppose.
I was waiting for @JuiceTheGator to respond, but it works for you too.

As bad as it seems for Florida right now, remember that Nebraska thought they hit the jackpot when Frost chose us over Florida.

Chip inherited a much worse situation and his team this year is better than Mullen's team this year.

I know what you mean. And I was upset we didn’t get Frost. I wasn’t happy with Mullen, but Mullen did prove me wrong for a couple seasons.

Why do you think Chip inherited a much worse situation?

His team had a better record than Florida and he tanked it. Meanwhile Mullen brought the Gators two three straight NY6 bowls.

UCLA just has a higher tolerance of failure. Mullen is a good coach but terrible recruiter.

They only had 57 scholarship players.

Never say never, but the Oregon team that took the field 2 days ago isn't beating Oregon State, let alone Utah in a rematch.
thats the thing, i dont know if i have seen the same Oregon team more than 2x this season. each week they look different. each week they lose or gain injured players.

If he has troubles figuring that out, maybe he should go have a few brewskis with Charlie Weis to get a few ideas!! :heh:

Oregon: Any fan of the Ducks that didn’t see this coming had been living in a deep state of denial over the past month.
Or, living in a dirty, poorly lit basement in Scenario Village.

Different money.

Mullen was making $7.5 million/yr with a buyout of just $12 million.

Before Frost's restructuring, he was making $5 million/yr with a buyout of $20 million.
After Frost's restructuring, he's only making $4 million/yr with a buyout of $7 million.
Frost also gets the proverbial "Change a bunch of assistant coaches" mulligan, of which I believe only delays the inevitable. Next year he's got the "I've got all new offensive coaches" excuse, but that won't work in 2023.

Unless Florida is getting Urbs back, every new head coach is a gamble.

For all you know the next promoted coordinator or G5 coach you'll be getting will be just another Zook, Muschamp, McElwain, or Mullen.

Mullen got that last year and still kept the worst DC Florida has ever had, and chose to cut two lower assistants instead. Kinda funny watching him fire his DC more than a year too late, and thinking it would help him now.

I was high on Frost during the search.

Who's to say he was? This is the first season Chip has had 85 scholarship players.
You can’t have it both ways. UCLA had a better record than Florida before those coaches took over.

One coach brought their team straight into the shitter. The other brought their team straight to three NY6 bowls in a row (then to the shitter).
