The Official Conference Tournaments Thread

Furman exorcised the demons from last year and is Dancing for the first time in 43 years.

St. Mary’s led by 26 with 15 minutes left in the game. It is now an 8 point game with 4:48 left.

St. Mary’s inability to handle a press will be their downfall next week.

Umass had a nice clunker in the A-10 opening round

38 points (lost 71-38 to Richmond)

23% from the field. 1-16 from 3

20 Turnovers to 15 made shots.

Louisville finishes the season at 4-28

LOL

Utter domination.

With the big dogs in all conferences starting to get rolling. I wanted to post one interesting stat since it does pertain to Marquette.

Right now, we are getting a lot of respect for a variety of things from a variety of experts. But every single persons reservation is "I like them a lot, but I just dont know if they can guard enough to make a final 4 run".

Now MU/Shaka both have some monkeys on their backs so we may flame out to St Johns tomorrow and Furman next week. Its possible. And teams like Uconn will always have massive size edges. But take a look at this:

The D struggles are a bit of a fallacy. Mostly inflated by the fast tempo and playing crappy teams that are too stupid to realize a track meet is a bad idea. In late/close game situations and in Q1 type of games. The D shows up.

Its much more likely we flame out because Omax has one of his cant stay on his feet games while Kam goes 0/7 from deep. Then it is that we simply forget to play D.

If I’m “the biggies”, Marquette, TCU, NC State and Mizzou are teams I’d hate to have early in my bracket…if they all get in. I just think those four could be a real pain in the ass.

I saw Gasaway put them in his Final 8.

Like I said in January, I really don't think there's any team to be scared of if you're Marquette, or anybody else for that matter. It's not Baylor/Gonzaga 2021. You knew were gonna lose, you just didn't know by how much. But ... matchups.

I think they might have a problem methodically breaking down a team offensive possession by possession at the end of a big game, like Nova did with Houston last year.

Either way I would say the teams they don't want to see for various reasons are Houston, Gonzaga, and UVA.

What better way to start off the day then with @Hitman Hart 's crew taking on the corpse that is Boeheim.

I agree 100%.

As good as the offense is, its actually the O that struggles in close games cause it slows down and goes more halfcourt and we stop running offense and force jumpers.

Look at almost every close gaem weve played, win or lose. Getting stops has been an issue in probably none of them.

SJU tomorrow is the only type of game where I am more worried about controlling the chaos and playing smart D.

Yea, in the tournament, you may get lucky and blow some teams out but at some point you're gonna have a super close game.

Thing is most other schools are going to have the same problem.

That's why I like Gonzaga. Timmie and Strawther can get you buckets in a tight game. But they could also be blown out in the 2nd round.

Kansas too with Jalen Wilson, but Kansas is always Kansas, they won last year and they never do anything 2 years in a row

Yeah Kansas will be a really tough out. I think Zona with the dual bigs too. Im not thrilled with Baylor overall but their guards in close games will be a bitch to play

Thats why its huge Kolek has emerged so much as a go to guy. Cause now he goes to get buckets late.

Have to have at least 1 guy that can do it.
