I was thinking maybe down the road we do an NBA double draft (since it's only 10 rounds because of players).

First draft is a full 10 round draft with a cap. After teams are drafted, we do a quick ranking of the teams to see who had the best squad.

That ranking determines the draft order for the second draft. It won't be a snake, it'll be just like a standard draft. Second draft puts all the players back into draft pool with only those players eligible to be drafted. Then we do a redraft. Teams afterwards will have the playoff brackets to determine a winner.

I like the idea but the only thing, standard draft? That is an obvious advantage to the guys at top. I get it, they won the previous draft but it would be difficult to overcome.

Well there has to be an incentive for the first draft. Otherwise what's the point of emphasizing drafting quality players within the cap structure? You can spend all your money on say 3 top tier players and then just use 0 for random bums. It would dilute the quality of the player pool.

Standard draft for maybe the first 3-4 rounds? Or maybe in the second draft the top ranked teams to choose their opponents from top down? There could be some alteration, but I think there needs to be something in place to make the first draft actually valuable.

Why not let the person who wins the first draft pick their draft position, then whoever finished 2nd picks next and so on...


If I finish 3rd in the first draft I will not pick 3rd draft position i'd pick 10th.

Yeah but if it's a standard draft, no need to do that, everyone is going to go in the highest slot. If it was a snake, then that is a different story

What if we flipped the drafts? The first one is either no restrictions or some other restriction and the second draft is a standard order cap draft. So you still have the advantage but you also need a strategy...and maybe put a spin in it bc all the guys won't fit under the cap, you get a couple wildcard picks or something.

I agree with what you said, we can change it to a snake draft a certain point but it's only 10 rounds. Maybe after the 3rd round. If you change it midway through the draft, half the teams still won't have a chance imo

Yeah I think Nos' alternative to allowing the top managers to pick their draft slot works best.

Why would someone purposely pick a worse pick in a standard format? We do that for fantasy football but it's a snake format

Some people prefer end picks as opposed to picking say 6th.

I know what you meant and what I mean is whoever finished last in the first draft gets the last pick in the 2nd draft and in a standard draft that is way to much of a disadvantage, if I finish last in the first draft i'll just skip the second draft, i'd have no chance.

Yeah exactly the point I have been making from the start. That's why I suggested a different format. They would have zero chance of competing.

Maybe a snake after the 2nd?

Yeah that's why I revised it saying that it shouldn't be a standard draft. It punishes last place to harshly.

Just need to come up with a plan to at least reward the first draft.

Higher finish in the first draft wins ties, of course this only works if we have an even number of teams.


Something that just popped into my head so it may be dumb like most ideas I have

The first round we get double picks, that would be an advantage but not a crippling disadvantage to who finished last as they would get 3 picks if we do a snake draft.
