Thee 2022 Oregon Decommit Thread

, I'm sure they told him he'd have a shot at it.

0% chance they "all but assured him the starters job"

Disagree. He is a 3 year starter from a major program. There are a lot of schools he could have gone to and been guaranteed the starting job. My bet is that, at the least, they told him that it is his job to lose.

Unless he just completely sucks in training camp, it is very likely that he will be your starter week 1.

Not gonna bet my life on it, but I would bet a lot.

Kenny Dillingham was also Nix' OC at Auburn in 2019.

Nix will have a leg up on his competition.

Gives the new OC a QB he is familiar with and who is familiar with the offense they will be running. Smart pickup, imo.

I'd agree that he is the odds on favorite to have the job week 1.

I think that is different from anyone guaranteeing him being the starter.

Unless a team has no other quarterbacks on their roster and no QB's coming in with the next recruiting class, they aren't going to give anyone an absolute guarantee.

The closest any staff would come to that would be...it's your job to lose, we anticipate that you will be our starter week 1. Which is likely along the lines of what he was told. Gotta make sure they don't word it in a way that could allow him to say he was lied to.

Glenn Schumann didn’t follow Lanning to Oregon. That’s a good sign. Kirby needs to make Schumann the DC before Saban comes calling

Worth noting that it will be a new offense (and a year later) for the other QBs.
Same can be said for Sam Huard, but the transfer Penix kid is still likely going to start for us.

It'll be real interesting to see if Lanning keeps the momentum going, or if things dip significantly next year.
