Thee PAC 12, Big 10, and ACC (Alliance) are Dividing Up tOrphaned 8 As We Plorst.

Big 12 TV ratings are going down regardless. There aren't many teams out there that can match the tv ratings Texas and Oklahoma bring. And none of those are chomping at the bit to join the Big 12.

Agree with that but I am looking at what is the best thing to do in their situation. They probably need to expand and BYU + Army might be the two easiest pickups and both could bring something to the table immediately. I know BYU is likely to say yes, not sure about Army.

And they could be football only members. Conferences are more competitive with each other from top to bottom in non football sports IMHO.

BYU would definitely make the move in all-sports. It might be delayed until their contract ends but they only joined the WCC so that they could have a home. Big12 would be more attractive for them in all sports.

As for Army, that might be a little more tricky since they are in a military focused league.

Weren't those the total revenue rankings? Where BYU runs off and leaves the rest of those teams (and others ahead of them) is their ability to attract national (even international) eyeballs. LDS folks are all over the place. Hell, we have quite a few of them here in our small town here in the oil patch.

BYU would be a good "football only" addition to the Big 12 IMO. Then the conference wouldn't have to deal with the no Sunday play. Their other sports fit well in their current conference.
Their basketball program is just as good as their football program. It isn’t difficult in scheduling BYU, you just have to have a commissioner with balls that says sorry non revenue sports, know your role.

Interesting note, Army has more National Titles and Heisman Trophy winners than the remaining Big12 combined. Perhaps the Big12 should be jumping at the chance to add them.

The big issue for Army and Navy joining the Big 12 would be the travel for non-football sports. Those are some long trips for service academy students. It’s not a normal college experience and sports is not their priority.

I’d like to see it happen but I think it gets squashed. Air Force might jump because the travel wouldn’t be as big of an issue.

Army is about the same travel as West Virginia as an FYI.

Yeah but that isn’t the comparison you have to do. You have to look at where they travel now compared to if they make the move. The Army doesn’t care what WV does they only care about what they do and how decisions will impact them.
