No doubt we looked bad, but the way we looked against Ohio State shows there is progress, it might be a 2 step forward one step back right now, not really sure what is going on.
Our lines have looked better this year (even when they fuck up) than i have seen in years. It would have been nice to get a lot of these shenanigans on film and worked out against some cupcakes before B1G plays.
Starting off in B1G play and shortened season just puts a microscope on everything right now.
That is kind of my point, it looked more like 2 steps forward against Ohio State, 3 steps back against Northwestern. The team that came out today looked worse than the team against Ohio St with the only exception of the D-line. You shouldn't get worse throughout the season (granted only second game).
Linebackers look slow as hell. The DBs play 5 yards off the receivers so they are almost never in a position to make a play on the ball or break up the pass.
Martinez looked real bad today. He was deciding slow, throwing balls in the dirt or 10 yards out of bounds - either way they weren't catchable.
We heard a lot about Omar Manning, I believe he was only targeted once and that ball was tipped at the line... never to be heard from again.
Wandale had 4 touches today, that's it. Personally, I haven't seen much to get me hyped about Robinson, but they keep talking good about him and he has been surrounded by not-so-great talent so I give him a break, but only 4 touches? Isn't he supposed to be a playmaker?
McCaffrey wasn't really involved until what, the 4th quarter? I will say that the offense looks smoother, looks better with McCaffrey under center than it does with Martinez. BTW, what the hell Mills!!! what kind of toss was that on the flea flicker LMAO, that was awful. I like Mills, but he isn't a dude if that makes sense.
Why aren't we trying to extend the field and go deep? The longest pass today was 26 yards..... 26!!! We kept seeing these stupid 3-5 yard passes to the long side flats, it is just dumb play calling and takes forever to set up so that Northwestern was already in a position to stop it right when it was set up.
I am not on the Frost fire train, that's dumb. But there are plenty of things that need fixing and MOST of them are coaching related. FIGURE IT OUT.
Sorry, needed to rant some more.
