This is why you need a 12 team CFP ...

Oklahoma looks to be pretty steady.

Average Home Attendance
2015 85,357
2016 86,857
2017 86,520
2018 86,735
2019 83,256
2021 77,795

I think the dip in attendance in '19 & '21 is due to seats being taken out, and Luxury Boxes put in.
Lot of people doing that. I believe UF is doing this:

The most dramatic scenario for the lower bowl adds a foot of width to the aisles and increases seat width to a full two feet, and was projected to reduce capacity by more than 18,000 seats from the west, south, and east sidelines alone.Oct 7, 2021

Additional reading indicates it is more like 1500 - 7,000 seats, could be as many as 9,000. Not sure what that says about UF football.

They will have to make it nicer for people, in order to fill the stadiums.
When I was a student, it was more of a cattle call atmosphere. Narrow aisles, cramped seating, long lines.

Now, it's getting too expensive and people want more I think.

Just the hassle around Athens has been a problem. They closed North Campus about 10 years ago because our fans were shitheads and trashed the place. North Campus is one of the more beautiful parts of campus with older buildings, and two gorgeous quads. You now have to pay a ton to setup there, so it's more civil. They seem to tie up parking more and more. Traffic in and out of Athens, unless you really know what you are doing makes it a pain in the butt. I wish I would have bought a condo downtown a few years back, but it's too expensive now.

They are improving the game day experience, but there is only so much they can do with widened concourses, etc.

Still, downtown Athens, with its 80 bars and restaurants is undefeated, and it's a great scene before and after the game.

Have you noticed any difference in your enjoyment level of going to football games when it's just you and your wife or when it's you and a bunch of your buddies?
Going to games with just my buddies is much more enjoyable.. I've only taken my wife to one CFB game, which was in Austin vs Tulane back in 2003 when JP Losman was the starting QB and VY was getting garbage time minutes.

She's been with me to multiple steelers games (in Nawlins and KC).. She's also been to a couple of fights out in Vegas and DC.

She's cool with me going to games and leaving her with our girls.. but we are planning to be at the RRS as a family..I'll attend the game and then meet up with them for a day at the fair.

Was wondering if the attendance thing could also be because of more noon kickoffs to appease the networks? Fox is making that slot it's premier slot. I know a lot of ou fans complaining about this the past few seasons.. wonder if people are tired of making it to the stadium at 8 am to begin tailgating

Eight is enough. First round in front of Christmas. Last 2 rounds just like they do it now.

Just do it.

From a practical perspective, 8 will never happen. Money rules, and you make way more money with 12 than you do with 8. You guys have to stop thinking that they are thinking that with 8 teams we will get more directly competitive. That has nothing to do with it, and in fact 12 provides far more competitive games than an 8 team CFP does. The idea is to ensure that way more fanbases are in the hunt late in the year, and qualify for the CFP. Just look at the excitement of UM fans this year, even though they got their asses handed to them. Now multiply that by 8 other fanbases, and imagine the fans of teams like NC State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, and Pitt when they get in a couple times a decade. That's what they are looking for. Finally, the SEC and ND will never agree to it. With 6 AQs, something that the Alliance insists on and most everyone agrees on, that means you go from 4 (theoretical) at-large teams to 2. ND won't want that, and the SEC (and candidly the B1G) would not support it as they will always get 2-3 teams in. At the end of the day, the 12 team format is a foregone conclusion.

On my first real "date" with my wife, we were driving down I-35 from Oklahoma City to my country place near Purcell. We were just coming up to the Norman city limits when she said "Would you be really upset if we changed our plans and went to the Red/White game instead?". (The Red/White game was the game OU played at the end of spring practice.) I almost fainted because I was dying inside that I was going to miss the game but I hadn't said a word about it. So this girl who also graduated from OU is a huge football fan and would rather go to a meaningless football game than spend the day with Mr. Cool showing her around the ranch? I couldn't believe it. Of course we pulled off a couple of exits down the highway and went to the game. She had me hooked for life. She's also real easy on the eyes and a good cook too. :) By the way, she normally wouldn't say "shit" if she had a mouth full of it.......unless she's watching OU really screw up and then I'll sometimes hear it. Most of the time she's trying to rein in my language which frequently veers more toward F bombs.

Sounds like a keeper

You only have daughters? You can be in the DODO club I started years ago. Dads Of Daughters Only.

It is for those of us that have had to navigate that perilous body of water known as the Estrogen Ocean! :beer2:

And my ocean got larger with 5 granddaughters! Did finally get a couple of grandsons to help somewhat balance out the estrogen/testosterone chasm that existed in the family.

Yep 2 girls.. And I stopped after that.. My dad has a friend who wanted a boy after having 3 girls.. His wife then got pregnant with twins.. Both girls lol. Imagine that poor guy.

He could be VP. Have a friend that had SIX girls...in a ten year span. Said as the first one got older there were always at least two in the house on the rag at the same time! (He included his wife in that number.)

He didn't have that to deal with that or he'd still be in the poor house.

all it does is change what i drink and eat

They want to make more money, obviously. But people are staying home and watching on TV in some places. In others, they don't care as much. Need to do something, but the ACC has their thumb up their ass The Alliance going over the edge with them.

My guys have always had an attendance problem because of having several years of shitty teams. But, this right here says a lot IMO. Best seasons those three have had in a while and attendance was D-O-W-N.

"Still, success does not always bring out the fans. In conference championship seasons, Michigan, Cincinnati and Baylor all lost attendance."

Well, you can't have 12 with byes ... it just doesn't work. If you don't want byes you have to go with 8 or 16. Here's the problem with that, and why you have to have byes, and I think want byes.

If it's 8, then you get 6 conference champs and then 2 at-large. So this year you would have had:

- Bama (SEC) - 1
- UM (B1G) - 2
- Cincy (G5) - 4
- Baylor (B12) - 7
- Utah (PAC) - 11
- Pitt (ACC) - 12

At large:
- UGA - 3
- ND - 5 (or tOSU - 6)

There are two problems here one with byes - without byes, the 6 conf champs and UGA played a game on the 1st week of December in a CC. ND and tOSU didn't. One of them is getting in with an extra week off.

As an aside this shows why 8 blows so badly ... you got the 7th, 11th, and 12th ranked teams in and you are going to leave out 6, 8, 9, and 10 - 4 teams ranked higher than 2 teams that got in. You simply can't reward them for not getting into the CCG.

If it's 16, then you have:

- Bama (SEC) - 1
- UM (B1G) - 2
- Cincy (G5) - 4
- Baylor (B12) - 7
- Utah (PAC) - 11
- Pitt (ACC) - 12

At large:
- UGA - 3
- ND - 5
- tOSU - 6
- Ole Miss - 8
- OkState - 9
- Mich State - 10
- BYU - 13
- Oregon - 14
- Iowa - 15
- Oklahoma -16

This really shows the problem with no byes ... now you have ND, tOSU, Ole Miss, MichState, BYU, and Oklahoma getting in with a week off while everyone else played in conference championships. You can't give them an edge like that.

This is why byes are needed ... you have to give the best conference champs a bye so they don't have to play teams that were off. The lowest ranked AQs may have to do that, but tough, be one of the 4 best next time.

Running through this, you could argue for a 10 team playoff with 6 AQs, all of whom get byes. Then the other 4 play to get you to 8.
Excuses are excuses. Byes are unfair advantages, full stop. If anything, to address your CCG point and to address the bowl system.... Push back the CCG to the middle of December and move up bowl games for any team not playing for a conference title. Rerank the teams after the results, then select your new 8 or 16.
