This taunting rule is already a disaster

I notice on half of these plays, the opposing players and/or coaches are asking for, and welcoming the flags. The NFLPA’s alleged opposition to taunting therefore falls flat.
Well, sure- they’re using the rule to their advantage. It would be dumb not to, but it’s a stupid rule and to me, it’s ruining the product.

I think the pussification rules are more about boomers wanting the game "played the way we played it". "just shut up after a first down or TD and get back to the sideline" as if there was never any celebration (there were) but they weren't seen by most working stiffs who only got to watch one game on TV per week.
Yeah, no. I and my friends are all late boomers and we don't like all these penalties affecting the game. We've had this discussion and while we feel that the over the top/in your face celebrations are lame as fuck we don't agree that they should be penalized. Spiking the football after a TD is OK, doing a choreographed dance that makes you look like a cockroach just crawled up your ass is ghey, everyone running to the camera and mugging or dancing is hella ghey.

Why not just act like you've been there before?

Similarly, taunting some DB or LB because you made a catch or first down run is weak AF and so is the same shit from a defensive player that made a big hit or pass defended. It should be legal for the tauntee to rip the head off of the taunter and shit in his neck, no penalty. That would put a stop to it pretty quick

Not sure I’ve seen taunting called this year. Watched four games this past weekend, don’t remember seeing it.

Also haven’t noticed the black national anthem.

The continued pussification of this sport is an outrage.

I love watching WRs, who are down by 21 in the 4th throwing their arms out after getting first downs.

Good job, bud. You stopped your team from having to punt for 3 more plays.

Let's face it, 3/4 of the players in the NFL probably couldn't legitimately pass a high school curriculum because they are stupid AF so they don't even realize how dumb they look when they act out.

Can the NFL make this go the way of reviewing PI?

Maybe (MAYBE) I can see some reason to call the penalty on Keenan Allen. I wouldn’t throw it, but I can at least see that one. Coming up and going straight face mask to face mask is nonsense.

But, I can’t see the point on any of the rest. Shit, I don’t even have a clue what the penalty on the last one (Bucs pick six) could have been for.

New England got one when a receiver or RB made a catch for what he thought was a TD, got up and did one of those spin throws with the ball. Apparently the ref felt he directed it at the defender so he tossed the flag.
The play ends up being ruled down at the one, the refs walk off 15 yards and now the Pats are back on the 16 and ended up settling for a FG.

Utter bullshit……

I remember as a kid Billy White Shoes Johnson would always to that spaghetti leg wiggle after scoring and everybody in school would copy him in recess football.

He'd be penalized so much in today's game he'd be cut on Day 1.

Trash talk is just that, trash.

So many great players across all sports were infamous trash talkers. It was part of their game and it was entertaining

Maybe for you, but I watch a game for the sport not the clown show. MJ was a great basketball talent and reportedly the greatest trash talker. However, the trash talking added nothing to his game.

If I had my way, as long as nobody is bleeding out on the field, no flag. Let me play, let em talk shit, let em brawl

This is bullshit.

Head games have ALWAYS been in sports. You have no clue whether it added to his game or not. He obviously believed it did, or he wouldn't have fucking done it. Duh.

It didn't add to the game for me. I admire how good a basketball player MJ was. I don't admire his trash talking. Pretty simple, it adds nothing to the game. FOR ME.

(Green font implied )
Trash talking should become a stat so draft position can be improved by the trash you have in your game.

In the TB-Atl game the DB who got his 2nd INT return for a TD off the deflected pass turned around as he crossed the goal line and got flagged for taunting.

I guess it's only allowed for Tyreek.

A Seahawks DB pumped his arm like a tennis player does and got flagged for taunting.

What I don't get is why the entire defense is still allowed to go mug for the end zone cameras after a big turnover. That's not taunting?
The end zone camera is neither the opponents sideline nor the opposing player.

exceptions of course exist. But for the most part the lame celebration and taunting rules are all about "get off my lawn" mentalities.
