Thursday Thread...National Apple Pie day

Well the more people that play the worse your odds of winning are.

This was established by a well respected poster on another website years ago.

so not you? Got it.

lol, they always come back for more dick kickin'

I don't remember the exact details, but I think it was something like this.

There was a state lottery (Mass?) where the pot would grow if there weren't winners, and once it reached a certain point, you were statistically likely to make more than you put into it. So this guy (maybe more people) would wait until that point and dumo thousands into it.
I think more people tend to play when the pot is higher and there is also more publicity, but it doesn't change your actual chances of winning.

That's true, unless you buy a shitload of tickets, and what @gobucks0409 is saying is that in some specific lottery, if the pot grew large enough, it statistically made sense to buy a shitload of tickets.

I'm not talking the big lottery. I'm talking a specific lottery in one of the states. It 100% was a real thing. The guy made money off it, and I think he even got "investors" for it. He didn't live in the state it was conducted. He would take a trip once it was favorable

There are some probability formulas that account for how much you pay in and your chance of winning. I forget the actual term, but it's something like there's almost no statistical difference between buying 1 Powerball ticket and buying 50 Powerball tickets. You just have 50 1-in-whatever odds now, instead of 1.

Yeah, but having fifty 1-in-whatever odds is 50 times more than having one 1-in-whatever odds.

As it relates to the Powerball, I'd agree that going from 1-in-whatever odds to 50-in-whatever odds is virtually inconsequential, but it's not identical.

I just had a bunch of T-shirts made at this place. Really pleased with the result and price.
