Looks like Bregman is this years version of Jordan Montgomery. Boras in his ear telling him he is going to reset the 3B market, hold out for the record breaking contract, don't sign early or back with Houston because the deal will come...and now it hasn't.

We are now at the point that the conversation has shifted into him signing a 1 year deal to try again next season, which Bregman is against. Now at the end of the day Alex is still already rich, going to get richer, but what a colossal mis-read once again by Boras. At what point do the top guys stop signing him as their agent? He's screwed around and kept Alonso off a team as well, when there was a massive market for first basemen with power! I get it that Soto got paid, but he was always going to get paid because of his hype and the playoff run.

My guess is we see Alex sign a deal like Bellinger got with the Cubs last season. Something like a 5/$180m with an opt out after 2025 and 2026 so that Alex does get that short team deal and try next year but it "looks" like a long term big money deal.

I’m glad teams are finally starting to call bluffs. There needs to be a market reset with these ridiculous contracts. I don’t mind high per season short term contracts, but guys in their late 20’s signing 10 year deals needs to stop

I still don't understand how there isn't any deal for Pete Alonso. All the other suitors found somebody else, he loves playing in NY, the team is better offensively for next year already with Soto. Bring him back and stop futzing around with Vlad Jr.

Two straight rough offseasons for Boras. Soto was always going to get a major bag, but a lot of his clients have struggled to get the bag lately. Sucks to suck. Bellinger, Chapman, Martinez, Montgomery, and Snell all had contracts less than half of what they were asking for last season.

The agent companies never cared. Everyone could see the bottleneck coming, but somehow enough players bought into the idea they were all going to get 8 yr / $375M contracts to play until age 40, that some guys got inevitably screwed. Even non-Pirates GMs saw these FAs and said screw it, we’ll just sign three guys at AAA for 1/6th the price.

Good luck to you, Pete Alonso. Maybe you can crash on Boras’s futon until you get picked up in June. :D

His time is over.

To infuriate everyone by using up this old tired cliche, but Scott Boras has jumped the shark.

The baseball market has changed but he hasn't changed with it.

Time for players to realize that Scott Boras' time has passed.

Yup I don't get that one either. Boras just forgetting to talk about him I guess.

Someone will get hurt in spring training and he will get a 1 year deal then try again. I'd love for Texas to pick him up on a 1 year deal.
