TJ Maxx to have employees wear body cams???

There’s pretty clear empirical evidence that signs don’t stop criminals.
how are you counting things that don't happen and saying there is evidence?

if I was walking into a gun free zone and I had gun and I stopped because there was a sign...how do you know?

if someone in their head says "oh shit, that employee has a camera strapped to him, I ain't gonna steal this shirt" you aren't going to know

do you not understand how "beware of dog" signs work?

It's just their Security staff who have them.

Huge waste of time.

This will stop crime, not cameras
Just stand at the door with it.

How about the countless instances of shootings in gun free zones. How about the countless examples of people being filmed shoplifting and not caring and let walk right out the front door. A body cam on an employee isn’t going to deter someone if there’s no consequence for stealing. It’s wishcasting aka being naive.

So you now moved on from “gun free zones” prevent gun crimes to “beware of dog”. These are not the same.

Entirely agree. This isn't even a half measure. It's designed to deter the sort of criminal who doesn't already know that no one is going to detain, arrest, prosecute or jail him, and hope that he's somehow scared that the camera represents evidence collection.

The penalties simply aren't severe enough, which is why crime is uncontrollably high. Either bash them in the face at the moment the act occurs, or throw them into a rat-infested jail 1 month for every $100 dollars of theft.

ok so you are counting the ones that did happen

how about the ones that didn't happen because of laws and rules

that's like saying laws against murder don't work because people still get murdered.

putting up something like a sign or a camera is a means of deterrence. It's not a difficult concept to grasp.

Just send your security people to a seminar.

With this guy.

That’s a dumb and unfalsifiable assertion.

I’m counting them because they happen quite frequently. The better measure is whether there is a significant change in occurrences where these cameras are used versus when they’re not.

A meaningless argument. NYC is currently attempting to claim the subway is safe because of all the ridership that occurs without assault, theft and murder. That's of little comfort to victims and gives a pass to the people who are supposed to ensure public spaces are safe.

There could be literally tens of thousands of dirty men, escaped silverback gorillas and rabid dogs that were all intent on violating your butthole -- but luckily I deterred them with my fists of fury. You can't prove it didn't happen, so just thank me, you ingrate.

but you can't say "signs don't do anything to stop crime" when you actually don't have a clue as to whether they do or not

Are you of the impression that TJ Maxx didn’t already have cameras? Are you also of the opinion that the kind of person who would shoplift right in front of an employee would refrain from doing so if they knew the employee was wearing a body cam?

are the cameras visible and right there in your face?

how do the signs making that claim deter crime? I don't think we are talking about the same thing

Not sure I understand what they’re trying to accomplish. The police aren’t going to arrest any shoplifters even if they’re on camera stealing.

I read an article a few days ago that reported stores are gathering evidence against organized shoplifter gangs and turning that evidence over to the cops.

Yes you absolutely can. Look at the crime rates. If they’re above average then you can reasonably assume the sign didn’t work. Unless your argument is well crime would be worser. Which isn’t the selling point you think it is.

It's a meaningless statistic. What matters in the end is if the crime rate in those areas remains the same, or if criminals are actually deterred. The signs by themselves and 'uncommitted crime' are not useful metrics.

very broad means of juding the effectiveness of a deterrant.

do you have those numbers? Are TJ Maxx shoplifting numbers above the average?

how does this logic apply to gun free zones?

but how are signs bragging about subways being safe meant to be a deterrant?

to me it feels like they are meant to calm the fears of some on the subway more than deter crime from occuring.

The latter is pretty easy. Has it ever occurred to you that the reason mass shooters target gun free zones are they’re the path of least resistance.

I’d be really stunned if there was even one example of such a shooter rolling up on say a school and seeing the sign and going, darn, not today.

oh boy...that argument again.

or maybe because school shootings are carried out by students and that is where they know they can get the people who have hurt them the most.

are churches gun free zones?

you don't see shootings at big sport events really...and those are gun free, right?

please...tell me more about mass shootings...because so far you haven't said anything that is true.

You would have to be the dumbest fucking shoplifter on the planet to not know there are cameras on you at all times when you walk into a retail establishment especially one as big as TJ Maxx. So why would anyone think a bodycam would be more of a deterrent?
