A&M trying to assemble the scummiest coaching staff ever?

I guess Red Beaulieu wasn't available.

The Purdue Boilermakers have a new football coach.

The Boilermakers announced Tuesday morning that Illinois defensive coordinator Ryan Walters has been tapped as the next man to lead the football team.

Seems like a major step down but it's their life.

It is Purdue's life. No high profile names are exactly knocking on the door to come to Purdue, they have to hire some assistant/low level coach and pray he works.

Gut says that’s a bad hire but.. we’ll see.

Also, yes it’s too soon but Mississippi State is open.

If it’s me, I’d prob go after Kevin Sumlin for that one just for a maybe an easier transition…

And maybe some heat for the A&M game.

id have to guess they interim someone on staff and wait til after bowl to name a new coach. give it all a couple weeks to settle.

I think it's a decent hire. Anyone who can take Illinois' defense from trash to elite in 2 years has something going on. He lasts 3 years. Either bomb out or take a better program.

I'm intrigued by the Walters hire. He was starting to get noticed more as a DC and felt like a guy who was super far off from being HC of a lower-rung P5 team. It just happened in 2022 instead of 2025

We just lost a guy that was a “fit” in places like Lubbock, Pullman, Starkville. Not everyone sits around waiting on those “plush” jobs. I admire guys that can give it a go in places like that.

I like both better too and long term would prob do the same. I am just thinking taking a shot with Sumlin to maybe not have to make so many moves to transition into those guys styles where Sumlin is a Leach guy too but then… in this era that might not even matter so maybe just go ahead and get Chryst or Mullen:noidea:
I know all n all I’d be pretty ok with Mullen coming back if I were a MSU guy

There were rumors out in the interwebz that we may be interested in Mullen if Neal got canned this year.

I had heard some of that too and I could see him working there too, I just couldn't see WVU spending that kind of money on Browns buyout and then the money it would take to get Mullen and his staff in one big swoop. WVU (as well as others) just doesn't typically do that kind of spending at one time.

Ohh no doubt. That’s half why I think Neal is still around, Gee couldn’t get the money to can him.

Did leach ever settle his lawsuit with Texas Tech @Airraidtech ?

This feels like the opposite of a problem. Knights offense sucked most of the year.

So under Malzhan, the OC doesn't really matter because Malzhan is calling the plays regardless anyway. We went through probably 6 while he was at Auburn and nothing ever changed.

It literally doesn't matter who is in that position.
