So, hypothetically, if Alberta secedes from Canada to become the 51st US state before the Olympics, what does that mean for Cale Makar and Brayden Point - who are both from Alberta?

- Would they be forced to play for Canada because it was Canada when they were born?
- Would they be forced to play for USA because it's now USA?
- Would they have the option of personal preference?

Oilers completely gave up on that third goal. That whole sequence was in slow motion, capped off by Skinner pulling a Skinner and just waffling it to the panthers and Nurse sitting there like his controller unplugged for ten seconds. Love it.

The whole defense has been exposed this series as lazy and mediocre. Lack of offense gets magnified even harder in the playoffs, but is worse when you can't clear your own zone or pick up the late man.

Edmonton looks headed for another loss here. Maybe the analysts can will McJesus into another Conn Smythe participation trophy...?

Florida what a run
The team and the state. There has been one of the Florida teams in each of the last 6 Stanley Cup Finals, with each winning 2. Both orgs are very well run.

They're both circumventing cap rules by putting players on LTIR right before the trade deadline, trading for top guys on expiring contracts to stack their team, then go full strength with no cap restrictions in the playoffs. Vegas has done that repeatedly, too, and they've been to 2 of the last 8 Cup Finals.

There's serious rumblings about applying the salary cap to the playoffs in the next CBA, so that well seems like it will be drying up soon.

Probably so, that being said "don't hate the player, hate the game" comes to mind. If you're not exploiting loopholes, you're not trying hard enough :)

Not really hating the player, just pointing out that the teams winning Cups now are executing that exploitation.

And that said, you still need to get the RIGHT players, get the players all on the same page and execute on the ice. Both Florida teams are doing exactly that; so yes, even beyond that exploitation, they're very well-managed. If NYR (for example) were executing that exploitation they'd probably still be getting knocked out of the playoffs early every year.

Pretty sure the NYR are the NYM of hockey :)
