tOfficial "Deion Sanders to Colorado" Thread

I watched the Sanders press conference, I also watched it walk through of the facilities and his meeting with the team annnnnd I'm not gonna lie, I am jealous of Colorado.

Sanders is a great recruiter (already landed a 4 star WR on his 1st day) and he is an excellent motivator.
Sounds like a PrimeTime version of Jimbo.

Dion tells the CO players to hit the transfer portal. Wow. Tells them the way they played; the fans deserve better than them.

I think he’s gonna be a major flop at Colorado.

Yeah, he has a good record at Jackson State, but still got boat raced by South Carolina State in last year’s HBCU NCG, and his record is inflated due to the fact he was able to get big name recruits to come there and play in arguably the worst FCS conference

The guy will be able to recruit, but statements like this just goes to show he knows he’s not a good developer of talent and doesn’t seem to have any interest in coaching his players up with statements like that. There’s a reason why a Colorado team that has been trash for nearly two decades is the biggest program that came calling.

He’ll put buts in seats and he’ll recruit, but he’s never gonna sniff any kind major success in the w/l column

From what I'm seeing, anything will be an improvement. I don't recall a statement by a coach like this one going public though. Coaches have always privately told kids they sucked, but to tell the entire team to hit the portal on day one....that's gonna leave an impression.

Colorado is basically Kansas now, just getting to a bowl game every now and then will keep most happy, which is will probably be able to do with recruiting alone, but if you can’t develop or coach your team up, are you really that good of a coach? I mean, Kirby Smart is a great recruiter, but his QB is a former walk on and the top two receivers were 3 stars and he’s had multiple 3 star recruits go on to be drafted in the first round(Eric Stokes and Jordan Davis off the top of my head). If you’re gonna be a good coach, you’re gonna have to do more than just recruit. It’s easy to have the most talented team in the worst FCS conference, it gets a little tougher when you move to a P5 school, especially one that is 1000 miles from the nearest 4 star

Oh here come the naysayers! Talking about a man who only hit a MLB homerun and scored an NFL touchdown in a weekend. Hahaha He's been called Primetime since he was 13 years old and scored 30 points in a basketball game but some hayseed on a backhoe knows better....hahahaha GTFOH!

It's a different sport, but Calipari comes to mind. And like you said, they really only need to have a steady run of good seasons to be considered successful. Flop at Colorado is to repeat the last guys trash.

This is a steppingstone for him and I don't think he needs to do much to get what he needs done.

I agree. I think he is probably the "new" style of coach that could really change up the game. I am surprised we haven't seen more big-shot former players go into coaching.

Penny Hardaway is another at Memphis although he hasn't been as successful.

One of the best athletes of all time. I don’t think he’s gonna be a very successful coach at the P5 level.

If he proves me wrong, so be it, but telling the entire current roster to hit the portal isn’t a good start IMO.

This one's 500 miles

The pay is good, but it’s also a major grind. It’s year round with recruiting and dealing with turnover on staff, spring practice, etc. not many all time greats are gonna be up for that kind of a work load when their playing days are done. In roundball, maybe since the roster sizes are smaller and roundball is an easier game to coach than football, and it’s not always the case, but generally speaking the elite players don’t tend to make good coaches

I’m coming around to the fact that Prime is more than likely the next evaluation into college coaches. Their man priorities are going to be recruiting, motivation and retention in todays environment.

Today Saban can get the players but they are losing motivation and I’m seeing more Bammers in the portal than I’ve ever seen.

It’s too early to tell but I think Prime is the future and guys like him will hire coaches for the Xs and Os.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be elite former players that fit this mold. I think guys like Rodney Garner are going to be the head coaches.

Colorado AD Rick George told the press Sunday that the program doesn’t “have the money yet,” but that the Buffaloes should be in solid position to get it. He added he’s “not worried about” getting the cash to make sure Sanders gets his money.

That might be the craziest statement I've ever heard from an AD after just hiring a coach. He just admitted they are broke and are going to have to fundraise just to pay coaches' salaries. This is not a good start.

This is going to be a hilarious season or two at colorado

I read that Colorado football has just landed a cannabis retailers license.
