So, I'm the luckiest Aunt in the world.

About a month ago, my niece was in a horrific car accident. She and two others survived it, but one person did not.
She sustained multiple fractures, including in her neck, back, and face. She also sustained a pretty severe TBI, once for which they thought she'd need months of in-patient rehabilitation to regain full cognitive function.

Well, she has been released from the hospital, is regaining full mobility - still in a brace from her hips to her neck and her jaw is wired shut, but has made fantastic progress, and borderline miraculously has already achieved and surpassed the cognitive goals they thought she'd need the months of in-patient rehab to achieve, so will not be stuck in some other facility for who-knows-how-long. My brother said the lead trauma nurse says they occasionally see young patients recover cognitively much faster than is originally projected. I can't help but wonder if, perhaps, the doctors went too far with the original prognosis, but whatever, I'm just glad she's recovering so quickly!!!

Wow, sorry to hear she's going through all that, but happy to hear that she's doing better than initially hoped

Thanks.
I don't even know how it is possible, but it looks like she's going to make a full recovery.
I spoke with her, and while she had a hard time finding a couple of words, I was surprised by how lucid she was.

On a selfish note, I've now gone a few days without bursting into tears, which is really quite nice.
I did a good job of keeping it together when I was around other people, but when I wasn't ...

I don't imagine I'll stress over much of anything at this point.
I was s-p-u-n for a few weeks I was stressing out so badly, but now ... mostly relieved and grateful.
I also have a little experience with people recovering from a TBI, so I know glitches can happen, and they work themselves out.

How so? Summer just started.

Over/under for back to school sales? One week, and I take the under.
We were done in may. Summer school is 4 weeks in June. Seems like I hear school ads before done with summer school. Over eager assholes :tsk:
