If you are getting one drink and gonna just be there for that drink, sure.
If you are there to fucking drink, keep it open, that's just silly.
If I'm going to be at the actual bar, sure keep it open. If I'm going to be off somewhere else and it's going to be a good wait just to even tell the bartender to close out fuck that, though. Especially those old college bars we'd go to where it took sometimes upwards of 20-30 minutes to get an order in because it's so packed and the bartender is hornily going after anyone with a set of tits.
I don't like having my credit card out of my possession for any longer than absolutely necessary.
On the other hand the higher class places I frequent don't ask for payment until I'm done drinking whether 1 drink or 4.
