I put in for every promotion I see posted even when I know I probably won’t get it. Even if you don’t get the job, a good impression will help down the road

I just had a fireman show up at my door and walk around my property with me telling me the things I need to do to create "defensible space," in other words, ways to make my house more safe from any fires that may decide to visit. He was really nice and highly informative. I'm even going to get an email summary of what we discussed ... the plan, as it were, for my property.
