I dunno... I have one now, but 1. my stupid laptop didn't detect it, so I did this partition booshit but I still can't access the stuff already on it because 2. it's files from my old Mac and I think I was supposed to change something other with a NTblah, blah, blah before naming the partition or someshit. All these mawfks on youtube have accents and talk too goddamn fast for me to get it. Anywho- it's 1TB, but I have no idea how much space I have left on it and don't want to reformat because I can't remember if I want that stuff super bad or not.

So for a new one... I really only need it to transfer shit from my work laptop to my home one and to take shit off my phone. Mostly pictures.

I'm not extremely versed on the pros and cons fwiw, but i don't see why a regular cheap HDD would not work if you aren't concerned with the speed at which it is going to transfer files or are super concerned about it fucking up and losing shit on it. HDDs do fail more because it has moving parts, but it's not like they all self destruct after a certain period or something. HDDs were in use for a long time before SSDs were.

Well depending on where you're moving them to a flash drive should work. I had to factory reset my laptop not too long ago and that fit all my pictures and files. I'm not sure how many it can fit on a single message so it could be tedious but if worse comes to worse emailing them to yourself has also worked for me.

Yeah a flash drive is all you need and they are cheap as fuck....$20 for 128 gb

Seagate 1TB SDD = $159

Probably get what I pay for... better go SSD 😣

Cot dammit! Was in the office yesterday and have like, 3 flash drives I could have brought home!

Yeah definitely just do the flash drive. If you don't have your own like @Bayou Tiger said they're far cheaper and get the job done easily.

That's a ton of storage. I used to work on a Autocad 3d program at work with about 100 others......all working on 3d models for petroleum plant design. Our entire network of servers didn't have that much space..... for the entire building!

if 1 TB is more than you actually need then I would probably pay $55 extra for the SSD. If it is just pictures then the flash drive route is probably more efficient $$ wise. High res videos are where you really eat up data space though. So if you are saving those 4k only fans videos to post on the Hub later down the road then I would get a harddrive/SSD.

I have no idea how much space I need. Do you know if this means I've used 200mb or 931.19gb? lol!

System is what is used to store vital shit that you don't change. Easy way to think about it would be like Windows on your computer or IOS on your phone. Those are necessary to the machine and you don't delete those. Primary would be the actual space you are concerned with.....and if you have about a TB full on there already then I would definitely get one bigger than a TB and definitely wouldn't use a flash drive.

and who in the fuck uses 1tb for just pictures? Google says that is 250,000 12mp pictures.

I dunno. I can't access that middle part. I can see the 127mb NTFS, but that's on a PC. That middle part should have files from a Mac, and it has a different format. When I right click it, none of the options to fuck with it are available, so that's why I'm thinking it's used space.

External hard drive. The whole reason I started down this path anyway is because in November, we're getting more closely monitored on our work laptops so firstly, I want to take all that shit off and put it on my personal laptop. Secondly, I have a few phones worth of shit in the cloud that I want to pull off. How big were the 5-8 iphones? 256? I probably have 3 of those of photos in the cloud. I think I can pull them directly via itunes, but yuck. I don't want that on my laptop. I swear, I'm not going iphone with my next phone so I want to get away from all the apple shit.
