What does outrun the SS deduction mean? I guess what I'm trying to accomplish, is to max out my 401k early so I don't have puke when I see the deductions every 2 weeks and I want my employer to match a lot of it. And I would also like a pony and a pocketful of jolly ranchers. No grape ones, though.

The SS deduction is 6.2% of your paycheck, but there’s a cap every year. For 2021, that amount will be $8,563. That means once you’ve earned $142,800 you will hit that cap and not have a SS deduction for the remainder of the year. So, if you make more than that your paychecks after that point will be larger than the ones earlier in the year.

The timing of your 401K deductions shouldn’t impact your match.

Can‘t help you with the pony. You are correct about grape Jolly Ranchers. Grapes are good for wine and that’s it. Raisins are an abomination. Grape jelly is an abomination and grape Jolly Ranchers are wrong on every conceivable level.

I like this guy. You could have started with that, and I'd probably listen to anything you'd have to say. :suds:

Also- that number makes sense (I know! SHOCKER, @gobigred ). I thought I was getting bigger checks because I hit the max on my 401k for the year.
