Thanks for asking, he's still training remotely. The instructor tried to do some outdoor sessions in the fall but there wasnt enough interest and now the weather is going to be bad.

He had a pre-test on Dec 19th for his black belt (sort of like a kup) and the black belt tests are scheduled for may or june right now. They're hoping they will be back to in-person by then, and everyone will have to break all the boards they missed during the pandemic!

I'm glad to hear it. We had a student who was scheduled to test for his black belt last spring, but had to close, like, 2 weeks before his test. We were able to get him tested in the window between when we were able to re-open and had to close, again. He started to get really discouraged, but powered through it. It made me think of your son and hope he wasn't getting discouraged.

Hahaha ... one of the things we made sure to do in that brief window of being open was catch up on a lot of breaks. We'd done promotions online, and genuine promotions can be done online, except for the breaking part. The kids were so happy to get to do so many breaks, even those who were really nervous because they either hadn't broken before, or hadn't done so very much, yet.

"Which Big 4 sports team is team of the year"

"YOU MEAN BIG 5 WHERE IS THE WNBA GAAAAAAAHHHHH!"

WNBA fans' inferiority complexity would be hilarious if it weren't so pathetic.

Uh, while I'm certainly no fan of it, I dare suggest fucking soccer has far a better argument for being included in a non-existent Big 5.

It's like eating gravel.
There's a restaurant here that sprinkles em' over a salad, and it's kinda good.

My great grandmother ate them when I was young, and I remember pouring myself a bowl once out of curiosity...so I poured it like ya would normal fucking cereal, ya know, like filled the bowl....holy fuck, it would've taken me days to finish it. I barely made a dent and was full af. lel

I remember an ad for them where you add the milk then microwave and eat it warm. Doesn’t sound super terrible, tbh. Like a super coarse steel-cut oatmeal?

MLS absolutely has more of a claim as a big 4 sport than the WNBA. But don't tell their fans that, because any time the WNBA isn't mentioned in the same breath as NFL/MLB/NHL/NBA they scream sexism and have an absolute fit. I remember Adam Schefter got dragged by them because he didn't include the WNBA Draft in the same sentence as the NFL Draft.

I don't have much of an issue with the WNBA itself and if it works out great but you're not winning any fans by smacking them in the face like that.

It sure doesn't make sense to me.
Not everything is sexism.
I could be off on this, but I could swear I remember some issue about players on the US Men's soccer team getting paid a lot more than the US Women's soccer team. If my memory is accurate, that's something where I could see an argument for sexism being made, since the US Women's Soccer team has been so successful. That's miles apart from claiming the WNBA should be considered the fifth of a imaginary Big 5 because ... it exists.

It’s hard for them. The WNBA has an organizational structure, playoffs and a championship that probably looks like a shiny dildo. It has dozens upon dozens of hardcore fans, believing it’s a real sport that anyone cares about, and not at all a tax write-off for NBA owners.

Yeah sexism in sports still exists but also we've seen people rally around women's sports like the USWNT and individual tennis players so it's not like there can't be success. Hell I've found myself enjoying women's college hoops (that sports done numbers at times) and think college softball is often more entertaining than college baseball.

The WNBA folk should realize their product just might not be appealing to enough of an audience and yelling at people when they aren't included with the big four sports isn't going to win anyone over. MLS and men's/women's hockey seems more inward focused on improving their brand/strengthening ties with current or prospective fans and players and then organically grow from there, which seems like a better strategy than just boinking people on the head.

WNBA is a legitimate vehicle for fans of women's sports and basketball.

The chauvinism on here is appalling.

International soccer is the big 1

all other sports fall in line afterwards.

Hell, even I watched the Lady Vols. Pat Summit was nothing short of a badass.

It's fantastic there are so many more opportunities for women to play at a professional level than when I was a kid. That doesn't mean each women's league or sport is going to reach the same size of audience as leagues which have been around much longer. There have been men's leagues that haven't done well (what was that football league that was supposed to play in the off-season of the NFL, or something, around for a few years, then went kaput?).

XFL was last year (but it's supposedly coming back) and AAF the year before.

I'm curious to see what happens with women's hockey. They've been doing alot of ground up building with things like building rinks and having youth camps and then leveraging big names like John Buccigross to help promote it and the successes of the US team. I bet that approach works better long term than simply being entitled to attention.

So, did those leagues not gain the popularity of the NFL, MLB, NBA, or NHL because of sexism???
I'd bet money the answer is, "no."
