There's nothing left of this house. 2 people killed, a 74 year old and her daughter. The 74 year old filed a protection order against her 28 year grandson yesterday, afraid that he would set fire to her house.

What part of Omaha?

DAAYAM!! That sucks... I imagine THAT "grandson" is in for some intense interrogations.

Sad, though... Makes NO sense if this was a deliberate act.

So, for those who aren't literally certifiable, protective orders can be effective.
The problem is so often the people against whom protective orders are filed are literally insane, so the protective orders aren't worth the piece of paper on which they're written, with the possible exception of, after the person against whom the protective order was issued violates it, if you get the right cop and the right ADA, criminal charges can be filed against them. Sadly, unless there's a long pattern of protective orders, the person violating them over and over, etc ... they get little more than a slap on the wrist.

Big Boss emailed me a bit ago because I was asking him about a meeting coming out of a trip he took the other day and whether he'd be able to attend it. His response:
As long as it isn't in a skiff.

So i'm thinking, "Uh... I thought you were moving to your new house, not out on a boat somewhere" and responded, "I think there’s a joke about needing a life jacket for this meeting in there!" hardy-har-har, me so clever & funny.

He responds, "No, it's an actual thing - a room specially designed for classified communications"

SCIF: Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility
(pronounced “skiff”), a U.S. Department of Defense term for a secure room. It can be a secure room or data center that guards against electronic surveillance and suppresses data leakage of sensitive security and military information. SCIFs are used to deny unauthorized personnel, such as foreign intelligence services or corporate spies, the opportunity for undetected entry into facilities for the exploitation of sensitive activities.

Moxie and her C-suite swag.

What stocks are likely affected?

Back in my day it was the Cone of Silence.

Back in my day it was the Cone of Silence.

One of the dearest friends of my life dubbed his very first cell phone his shoe phone.
I recently was going through an old address book of mine, and by one of his numbers it says, "shoe phone."

Hear ye, hear ye!

I forgot to tell everyone that I successfully swapped the tree's spots yesterday BY MY GODDAMN SELF!! Almost lost the biggun to gravity, but I was able to re-jigger him and he's standing properly at attention.

Ummm...woooOOOOO?

Duh. They are two 7 foot trees! I'm 5'3"! Das a lotta tree!
But you re-jiggered the biggun, and now he's standing at attention?

When I brought them home, I had the big guy (nearly 8ft) on the right side of the fireplace and the smaller guy (7ft) on the left. I wanted them to swap spots but my helper couldn't do it on my schedule. I was going to just deal with it, but it was bothering me. And bothering me. So I moved them. BY MYSELF!
And when I got them into position, the bigger guy started tipping quite a bit, so I had to reposition him in his stand and mess with the stand pokey things that hold it up.
