Numbers are so stupid! Especially ratios.
I just got an email that says my 401k match is going from 2:1 to 1:1. Is that better or worse? Does that mean they used to match half or double what I did?

They were giving $2 for every dollar you put in. Now it's dollar for dollar.

Those motherfuckers. I knew I'd get screwed when all the lifers threw a hissy fit about the pension plan being changed. Someone had to pay the price.
 
They're also capping at 5%, but I think that was always the deal.

Could I do something like contribute 50% for the first couple of months so that I hit the max early, then not take out anything for the rest of the year? Or does that make none sense?

Most rivers that have confluences will display something somewhat similar during runoff, just not as dramatic.
