This may be a dumb question but is this white soot looking stuff on the sides of the road up here road salt? Pretty sure I've never seen salt on a road.

Kind of but it was on pretty much the entire shoulder of the road. Maybe it was just more of it than that.

That's still probably it. I don't know the public works where you are but the salt trucks/snow plow combo can push it to the side like that if that's what they did.

Another naive snow thought from someone who never sees snow......i didn't realize snow would stick around as long as it has. I don't think it's snowed in like 3 or 4 days and it's still on the ground. It hasn't been super cold during the day either. I guess if it gets thick enough it insulates the snow below it though, right?

The cold ground helps keep snow around longer. Was it super cold before the snow?
