Yes, Al's is very good and not like a fancy place
Also yes. For beef Buona and Luke's are both good as well but if you can get to Al's do that. If you also just did a google search for italian beef near where you're staying you also might find good hole-in-the-walls. If it's at a "nice" play you're also doing it wrong for beef.
Honestly @Wood20ks gave a nice rundown as well.
Also would check out the Wieners Circle if you get a chance and want hot dogs and beer. About a 10-15 minute train ride north of where you'll be but it's the most "famous" of the hot dog places.

Yep and its great because as long as you're not bothering anyone or just being a dumbass about it no one gives a shit if you're doing it in public either, even though I'm not entirely sure that part is legal. Taking pre-roll smoke breaks at the bar or even just walking around smoking one and not thinking twice about is something I still think is bizarre.
Ooooh yeah that's a good call. Nuts on Clark and Garrett Popcorn are good places to grab a snake at.
