Thank god for the mute button

I had a hangnail the other day, so i yanked it out. Ouchie!
Now I have what i am assuming is an ingrown nail. Extra ouchie! It's giving my finger a fever and it's swollen. I soaked it in epsom salt water and doused it with peroxide, but that doesn't seem to have had any effect. I really don't want to chop it off but this lil' sumbech is really annoying me.

AND it's on the same finger that Izzy made me disfigure when I slammed it into her leash basket while chasing after her one day.

My precious middle finger! You never did anything bad to anyone!!

Cap’n Crunch or cap’n with crunch berries?

I used to separate out all the crunch berries from the box and hide them.
This started after my brother gave me a bowl without any crunch berries and told me because he was older, he got them all.
It didn't last long, but watching him pour a bowl and wonder where the crunch berries were was pretty fantastic.

But think about how much fun you can have showing everyone your injured finger.

What?
No, I'm not flipping you off.
I'd never do that.
I'm just showing you my injured finger!

How to care for a hangnail

If you get a hangnail, you should not attempt to rip or pull it off. If you pull on it, you may pull off additional skin that will open more inner skin layers to bacteria. This can also aggravate the hangnail area, which can cause it to become red and slightly inflamed.

To prevent infection and irritation, wash your hands before touching the hangnail.

Then, place your hand flat on a clean surface, palm down. Carefully cut away the excess skin from the hangnail with a pair of clean nail clippers or scissors. If you are unable to do it yourself, consider asking a family member or friend for assistance.

Putting antibiotic ointment or cream on the area is a good idea to protect the area from bacteria.

If your hangnail does not improve within two weeks or shows sign of infection, contact your doctor.

Hangnail risks

Hangnails have the risk of getting infected. If exposed to bacteria or fungus, an infection can develop. Therefore, it’s important to keep your hands clean and free of dirt and debris.
Symptoms of infection can include:
  • red, puffy skin surrounding the injury
  • pus surrounding the nail bed or hangnail area
  • skin feeling hot to the touch
  • fever or chills
  • increased pain or throbbing in finger
To treat an infected hangnail, follow the steps above in treating a normal hangnail followed by the application of a topical antibiotic cream and a bandage to keep the area covered.
Covering the area may prevent any further infection and keep your wound from infecting others.

Should I go to the doctor for a hangnail?

Typically, an ordinary hangnail does not require a doctor visit. Consider contacting your doctor, however, if your hangnail becomes infected and/or:
  • The area does not heal within a week.
  • Blisters and pus form around the injury.
  • Infection travels down the finger and nail bed.
  • Your nail changes color.
  • Your nail becomes weak.
  • You have diabetes.
Your doctor might prescribe antibiotics for the infection.

NOW you tell me! :tsk:

NOT me!! ONLY health problems I have are some annoying sinus issues and acid reflux... Otherwise, I'm in pretty good shape for my age and feel great. NO overweight issues for me... AND I'm an all day snacker and I don't even do "pot"!!

Which reminds me... time to grab a few more choc chip cookies and pop open another can of Coke! :headbanger:

Maybe you have a tape worm.

My first "cough medicine" was a jigger of bourbon with a bit of honey in it.
It's kind of a miracle I haven't turned into an alcoholic, at least not yet.
It's called a Hot Toddy.

My cousins started coughing fits when they wanted my father to make one for them.

Amazing how the "cure" causes the disease as well.
