I've gotten incredibly lucky with this house - my first one, too.
Beyond the fact I got them right before things went insane with the market (which was pure luck both times), I hit the all-important trifecta with both - location, location, location.
I'm golden if I ever sell this place.
My mom has a house on 5 acres in Napa that she and my late father bought in the 70’s for $75K. It’s probably worth a few million now just for the dirt, but her property taxes are almost nothing. Gotta love prop 13. If/when she decides to sell, she’ll be sitting pretty.

Yeah, I'd guess that place is worth millions ... even just for the dirt.
That's actually one of the other ways I feel so lucky and grateful for my place.
About 80% of its value is the land, not 'cause the house isn't very nice, it is (small, but very nice), it's just the land is worth such an obscene amount, the house could cease to exist, and I'd still be in good shape.

Well, I can at least think of one.
Aren't you a native Californian, @moxie ?

(Not that you need me to tell you this, but be very careful how you respond, lest she respond she'll cut a bitch (which, of course, is one of the first things I liked about her!!!)
damn right walter white GIF by Breaking Bad

Though, I should probably find more shame in the fact that I was born in a hospital less than 20 miles from where I live now and have only ever lived a max of 40 miles away from where I am now. Probably contributes a lot to why I don't leave Cali :noidea:

Why would you find any shame in that? Everyone is different. Some people want nothing more than to get the fuck out of where they grew up, like me. Some people don't, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Sweet & spicy nuts came out pretty good. As usual, I should have upped the cayenne a little bit more. The recipe called for 1/4 tsp and I used a heaping one, probably a solid 1/2 tsp. Will definitely use the syrup in the mix next time.

I had a little bit of a situation getting out of a relationship in my very early 20's. Up until then, I had lived in the same town from the time I was six years old. I packed all my shit into a u-haul and moved two towns over (about a 10 mile distance) and it was like I was in another country. I can't stand my hometown and rarely go back because of all the nosy busybodies and looking back, had I not had to deal with certain life events, I definitely would have hightailed it outta there!

That could be my story, if you were a couple of years younger when you left and went further away.
Seriously, I always knew I wanted out, but I left specifically when I left 'cause I realized it was really the only way this one particular guy would get it through his head it was over.
