I've been seriously considering getting a second place for a while.
I figured a condo would be the way to go, since I wouldn't be there all the time to take care of stuff, and HOA's would take care of certain things for me. Then I see the dues, and, well, that's why I don't yet have a second place. It doesn't matter where I look ... from Santa Fe to back closer to where I grew up, if it's a place I'd want to live, the HOA fees are high enough I'd just feel like I was paying rent on a place I already owned, and fuck that.
It's disgusting, highway robbery. I would probably immediately run for the Board if I bought just so I could look at their stupid numbers and see where they're getting boned on maintenance contracts. I can see a small HOA fee for minimal maintenance, but a car payment? Fuck off.

Let's see... there are at least 40 buildings x min. 8 units per building x $495/month dues (some are more if they are in the indoor buildings).... cross the T, carry the zebra, divide by toaster... they are pulling in over $2M in dues annually. They pay for water, garbage, landscaping, insurance and maintenance on a pool we haven't been able to use in a year. Reserves should be STACKED and they raise dues a couple bucks every year. I think they've gone up ~$70 in the 2 1/2 years I've lived here.

Of course, they aren't going to give even a teeny break on the pool maintenance, even though no one has been allowed to use it. Hell, even Comcast has given small monthly credits for some sports broadcasting fee, since there's haven't been as many games to broadcast. If fuckin' Comcast is willing to give their customers a bit of a break, pass along even the tiniest amount of savings ...

Taking this monkey-ass dog to the groomer in an hour. I hope the little bech lets them cut her hair.

It's so disgusting. This place is 2bd/2ba, only 995 sq ft and it's selling for $619k. :puke:

You can get this house for cheaper here. :pound:

My oldest daughter has an apartment in the City. It’s a tiny studio in an ok neighborhood near the Presidio. She pays $1,600 per month and we got a deal on it. Pre-COVID it rented for over $2,000 per month.

So totally nuts. That is a GREAT deal. How sad is that? I remember a few years back someone telling me that small apts (I think it was the new ones that were right across the street from the park) were going for around $4k. FOR THE ONES UNDERGROUND! NO VIEW!!

The good news is she’s figuring out that it’s hard to make a living there. She makes pretty good money for a 22 year old less than a year out of college, but it doesn’t go too far living in SF. She’ll be in TX before you know it and my wife will be very happy.
