@Camfantasy , old lady needs to buy a new cell phone. I'm trying to convince her to get a Pixel 4a, the kids are trying to get her to go iPhone

the iphone SE or the 12? 12 is a better phone than the 4a but it is substantially more expensive.

If at all possible, I would wait a couple of months if you decide to go the Pixel route. I think the 5a will probably drop around May.

Thanks for the heads up. She wouldn't go for a 12, it would be an SE and might be a refurb, or she'd get a refurbed Galaxy. Hers is dying/won't hold a charge and she probably will need to get one in the next couple of days.

I would definitely go Pixel over SE. Better screen, camera, battery life, more durable, etc. SE has a better processor but that's about it if I remember right. If I remember right the SE is basically an Iphone8 with their new chip in it....and at one time people said the chip was too powerful for the battery and would kill a battery fast when watching media like youtube en sech. That maybe could have been fixed with a software update or something though I guess.

I have the SE. It's a pretty meh phone. Got it for $50 tho. So whatever.

I'm a "meh" user. My son has an SE and loves it, daughter has a X. I usually buy cheap models since I don't do a lot of gaming or pictures on mine. Don't wanna spend 300$ and up on something I'll only use for a couple years anyway. But these last cheap ones we got barely lasted a year, so it's time to think about a model that will give us more time but still be affordable.

The only thing that really annoys me is the resolution. It's a downgrade from my previous phone, which is like....4 years older than it. The chipset and battery is decent enough, but screen is just mehburger.

i bought a 6s 2 years ago for $200. I can't update the OS now and im getting error messages from apps saying OS 14 or higher is required...

time to get a new one I guess.

This is an annoying practice that a lot of these manufacturers seem to engage in. Newer models come out that aren't as good as the older ones, but hey, "it's bigger/has more memory!"

This is why I have stayed away from iPhones or more expensive androids. They all stop working after a few years, when they stop supporting updates. I had read that the Pixel will update for at least the next two years, and the iPhone SE will update for 4-5 years. That's a huge selling point for me, because I don't like switching phones every other year.
