tOfficial PAC-12 Thread

Nobody who thinks they’re playing high level college football should be losing to Montana, that’s just pathetic

I mean, that’s, uh, kind of why I even said “depending on...”.

Yours is ok too, I guess. 👍

I can buy SDSU. They’ve been solid for a while and have guys that are going to be playing on Sunday. Nobody who thinks they’re playing high level college football should be losing to Montana, that’s just pathetic
nothing really against SDSU or Utah State for that matter but no matter how good they are the Pac 12 champion shouldnt be losing to them. Arizona is one thing but Utah should not have and it looks bad on the conference.
Utah state is an up and down year to year team but they still lose to Big ten and ACC teams in recent years but then beat 2 Pac 12 teams last year. not a good look.

This is one of the most puzzling recruitments ever.Every Texas $9.95er loves this kid but he doesn't even have an offer from any of the in state P5 schools.. Will be interesting in seeing how well he does at ASU
welp.. after one season he portal'd to TCU.. guess he finally got a P5 offer from a TX school afterall

Here are my thoughts on the situation. First off, I kind of sum up the challenges of Pac12 right here in thread #29: College Football Expansion - Who is Next and Why

Summary:

1. Pac12 doesn't have a lot of regional mid-majors to schedule for home games
2. Pac12 doesn't have a lot of home attendance to draw value from home games
3. Pac12 has the tv time zone issues
4. Pac12 covers greatest geographic span of any Power 5 league and had to travel more as a result

It is a perfect storm that made the downfall inevitable.

Regarding Oregon and Washington. I think they had two options that if they cannot get into B1G.

1. Stay in Pac12 put push for 4-5 OOC games (I will explain the logic here in a minute)
2. Go Independent

I think matchups are going to be needed. Oregon and Washington have great fan support for Pac12 which is an anomaly. They need to be able to pick their matchups and get the matchups that will drive value. Playing teams like Cal and Stanford won't drive eyeballs unless those teams are really good. Travel is also cutting into their $$$. Playing at Arizona for Oregon is like Tennessee going to Boston College or Wisconsin. I think Texas A&M might be the only game in the SEC for Tennessee that is the equivalent to those matchups in travel distance.

Oregon needs to play Boise State. That is a game that will drive eyeballs. Setup an annual matchup.

Joining Big12 is probably not a good fit as it will force Oregon/Washington into a bunch of matchups that won't pay the bills. The TV deal might be slight better than Pac12 one but I think going independent or trying to get your own network is a must for both programs. They can make more money solo, in my opinion, than being attached to a league (unless it is B1G or SEC).

I think this is why the PAC 12 is talking to the ACC. Even if there isn't a merger (a full merger is likely off the table), they can set up some quality OOC games to improve the ACC and PAC 12's content and get both conferences more national exposure

Pretty bad Week 1.

Two big games today, and lost both (Oregon and Utah).

Arizona and California Schools won.

Cougars are currently down 10 to...Idaho.

Dogs and Beavers yet to play.

9-3 overall. Only 1 favorite lost.

8-4 vs the spread.

The conferences favorites both losing makes it look worse at a glance, but overall it wasn't a bad week 1. Oregon and Utah both took a risk and challenged themselves, both lost but only one was embarrassed.

Compare to...ready...set...go...

No, overall is good.

Sure, Oregon got whipped, but I think they were overrated, especially since for some reason people believe Bo Nix is a solid QB, whereas he's probably 7-10th best in the conference. Utah played well, did better than UF I thought, but just made some dumb mistakes which led to the loss.

USC, Oregon State, Arizona State, and Arizona all looked better than people thought. Washington could be decent, and same goes for Wazzu and UCLA. I didn't watch Cal or Stanford so I can't comment on them.

Just looking ahead to Week 2, it's a massive week for the conference that could restore some credibility to it if all goes well.

Mississippi State at Arizona (MSST -10.5)
Washington State at Wisconsin (WISC -17.0)
Arizona State at #12 Oklahoma State (OKST -12.0)

And yeah, I know Colorado is at Air Force, but I don't think a Buffs win would really restore any credibility to the conference after what we saw in Week 1.

Oregon for sure over rated but only a little, top 25 fringe. they will finish either just in or just out.
100% on Utah. same thing that happened to Oregon vs Auburn a couple years ago. looked better played better then 1 last second TD for Auburn.
USC played Rice. no different than last year playing San Jose State in game 1. still to be seen.
Oregon State over Boise and Arizona over San Diego State. props. top of the Mountain West and schools who are known to beat Pac teams on a regular basis
Washington beat Kent State. On one hand they are a MAC team so that should happen. one could argue they won their division last season. but then look again and they did it with a 6-2 in conference but 7-7 overall. All things considered losing to Montana last year this is a solid start for them.
UCLA beating Bowling green is the same story as UW. MAC school. difference is they were a sub .500 team.
Wazzu pulled it off but it was Idaho. 24-17 after a 10-10 half to a school who dropped down from G5 to FCS.
Cal, Arizona State and Stanford beat FCS teams
Colorado lost to TCU and were only down 1 at half so no shame

The AZ schools could make a splash this weekend if they both win.

I hope BYU wins this weekend, as next week's matchup between them and Oregon might be a really good game and an indicator of how good either, or both, of them are.

A BYU win this weekend would be great. Setting up for Oregon to beat a top 25 team next weekend.

PAC is looking good today!

Washington State up against Wisconsin currently.

Cali beating UNLV

and Washington and UCLA beating scrubs. Only Colorado is losing, but everyone expects them to always lose.
