tOfficial PAC-12 Thread

USC, WSU, now maybe UW
Arizona state still under investigation if im not mistaken
rumors of Cal as well.
is UCLA tired of Chip yet?
how much longer does Shaw have at Stanford?

PAC 12 might have a lot of open positions after this year. I don't think Stanford gets rid of Shaw but I wouldn't be surprised by the others that you noted.

Mycah Pittman posted a tik tok that makes it look like he will be transferring. so far this year mostly only seen him on kick return. a small number of times at WR but Oregon hasnt exactly been throwing a lot this season.
He is from the LA area and his brother played at USC. USC or UCLA could be a landing spot
His brother now plays for the Colts so this could put Indiana and Purdue in play.
there were like 30 schools that offered. not sure his relationship with those schools then vs now.

He is dating Maddie Scherr from the Oregon Womens basketball team. this could factor in if they dont want long distance. She is from Kentucky

bump due to coaching hires

Kalen DeBoer from Fresno State to Washington 67-3 at NAIA Sioux Falls. 3 national championships 1 loss in championship and another in semis. 3-3 in first year at Fresno then 9-3 this year.
Lincoln Riley from Oklahoma to USC 55-10 at Oklahom over 5 years.
Jake Dickert from Interim to head coach at WSU 3-2 as interim also beat Washington 40-13 for the first Apple cup win since 2012. it was also their largest margin of victory over the Huskies ever.

Nice pick up for the Ducks. He's gonna need to bulk up a little (training table should take care of that), but he's apparently very skilled.
he's a top40 player or On3.. good get. Man.. Washington. They gotta get their shit fixed. There have been some bluechips in that state that they cannot afford to lose and have been.

It was a big recruiting win for the new staff. He definitely needs a redshirt year but fortunately Oregon is pretty set on the O-Line for the 2022 season.

Washington has struck out a lot recently but losing a kid to Oregon really stings for them. It's only going to get worse for UW if Wayne (2023) commits to Oregon as well.

Obviously, I'd prefer USC to have gotten him. But looking at the bigger picture, if Riley can get USC back to standards and Lanning can keep Oregon going...it would be very good for the PAC nationally.

Right now, the PAC's realistic goal is to become the clear #3 revenue conference behind the Big Ten and SEC. In order for that to happen, the PAC needs multiple big name programs to be relevant on the national scene. USC and Oregon are the biggest brands in the conference and the PAC needs both to be competing for the CFP. However, it also needs a majority of the following to be relevant: Stanford, UCLA, UW, Utah and Zona/ASU.

Without that, the conference is simply too mediocre and won't create enough good matchups.

Agree. I'm not a ''conference fan'', so I take no pride in other PAC teams wins. But during the Pete Carroll era, there were 2 or 3 times when USC should have been in the NCG, but the PAC being considered weak hurt them. I know there have been at least a couple of times where your Ducks were left out of the CFP for the same reason.

So yeah, having a couple of other teams perform well, especially in OOC and bowl games, would definitely help.

The new commissioner seems to be off to a pretty good start and I saw he is moving them out of those ridiculously overpriced league offices that they were renting in San Francisco. Hopefully he will be able to help the conference raise its profile as well.

Agreed. It's not about "rooting for the PAC" for me either. However, it's going to be hard for USC and Oregon to compete nationally if the PAC continues to fall further behind the SEC and Big Ten from a revenue perspective. In order to prevent that, the PAC needs to improve in a lot of aspects.

As for the new commissioner, he's done ok. I'm fine with him moving out of SF but that was really chump change in the grand scheme of things. The new TV deal is crucial. I can't really grade him positively or negatively until we see what happens with that.

Agree that the new tv deal is crucial and other than the conferences sports teams (especially football) improving, it ultimately will be the biggest factor in improving the conferences standing.

But part of the problem with the previous commissioner was wasting money. As of 2020, the conference was paying $6.9 million annually in rent and was carrying an additional $11.9 million in deferred rent.

By comparison, the SEC was paying $318,000 annually for offices in Birmingham and the B1G was paying $1.5 million combined for its primary headquarters in Chicago and a satellite office in New York.

That is lot of wasted money for a conference that that lags behind in revenue.

I agree that the conference renting a place in SF wasn't needed. That said, when you look at the TV revenue gap between the Big Ten and SEC, it isn't because of the location of the conference office. That's a small amount compared to the growing revenue gap.

I get it. You're focusing on something that can't be dealt with yet.

But the opportunity to start closing that tv revenue contract gap can't be addressed until it's time to negotiate a new one. That opportunity won't happen until the summer of 2024.

The one and possibly only smart thing Larry Scott did was set it up so that all contracts expire at the same time. This will allow Kliavkoff to negotiate on the football and basketball inventory that is currently on FOX and ESPN, as well as the 36 games per year that the PAC Network gets.

What I am praising Kliavkoff for is starting to get rid of some of things that are just wastes of money. Larry Scott would have been content to continue to sit in his expensive headquarters and wait for 2024. Kliavkoff seems to be trying to get to 2024 with the conference in the best shape financially as possible. That should strengthen his bargaining position some.

Even if they paid for 1 headquarters, what the B1G is paying for headquarters in one state and a satellite office in another, that's an additional $5.4 million annually that can now be used for things that actually help the conference. For example, it's money that could be put towards training PAC refs/hiring better ones so they aren't such an embarrassment to the conference.

And that's just rent. Who knows how many more millions was being wasted by that previous moron.

I agree that it's a good move not to waste the money and I'm sure there are better ways use to it. My only point is that focusing on that issue is ignoring the elephant in the room. If Kliavkoff can't get a better TV contract, he will be no better than Larry Scott. That's why I'm waiting until 2024 to judge him.

Like any commissioner, the tv deal will make or break him. But seeing what he's been doing so far gives me more confidence than I would have had with Scott.

Conference needs to stop losing to schools like San Diego State, Montana and Utah state

No shame in losing to SDSU. They’re a solid team.

Depending on the PAC team, you could definitely say the same for the other 2 as well.

I can buy SDSU. They’ve been solid for a while and have guys that are going to be playing on Sunday. Nobody who thinks they’re playing high level college football should be losing to Montana, that’s just pathetic
