At various times over a period of time, Hawaii had some damn good teams. On the flip side, Alabama had some really suck ass teams, as did every other team.

They'd actually travelled to Hawaii in 2002 as well, but won that one 21-16.

The reason they scheduled the games @ Hawaii was because they'd been placed on 5 years probation that included a two year bowl ban in 2002 and 2003. Playing @ Hawaii gives teams a 13th game.

Bama was (10-3) in 2002 and (4-9) in 2003.

UT $9.95ers are reporting that the SEC will move forward to a 9 game conference schedule starting in '25. Also said there will be 4 pods (UT, aggy,ou, and ark). RRS game will be moving from 11 am to 2:30pm local kickoff starting in '24.

I don't buy the pods because if they did that, i'm positive that Mizzu would be part of it, not aggy.. they would fight tooth and nail against that.

In the grand scheme, no. It just looks comical in late November when other teams are all playing conference games and you've got most of the SEC playing the FCS and Sun Belt.

To be fair though some ACC teams do this as well. Well mainly Florida State usually.

It does look bad, but the payoff is getting SEC conference games in week 3/4 when the other P5's are mostly still beating up on fodder schools.

I have a couple of former students that live in the Spring/Conroe area now. One is an ACU grad and the other got his Masters at A&M. They were ragging each other the other day about the game. I'll see if either or both are interested and PM you. if they are.
