I’m glad the old Richt and Kirby meme got reused
It was all just karma for that false start getting called an offsides in the first halfMeh. It is what is it. I think there are a ton of games that Ive watched in the past that flag doesn't get picked up and I was surprised at the time when it did. I think there was definitely contact to the head. When Harrison went down, he was not conscious initially. However, I don't think that's always targeting. The defender was just trying to make a big hit to jar a possible touchdown and made a heads up play. I don't think there was intent to injury nor did he launch himself or lead with his helmet.
I won't agree with any rule that says a defender has to let up from making a legal, big hit bc the opposing player could get hurt thus allowing a big play.

Meh, UGA has depth at receiver. Went without the best WR most of the season. I still hope whatever ref made that offsides call shits himself at least once a day for the rest of his life. That's some awful imbalance in karma on Ohio States side. Gets away with a false start and Georgia gets a penalty but loses their best receiver? I'll take the false start next time, please
I am or was obviously biased and didn't see it as targeting ... I went to take a leak at the commercial break, pissed off, and was shocked when I came back and you were kicking a field goal.Meh. Don’t defend your embarrassment of a coachHow is he whining? He's recalling his thoughts and actions from over a month ago. It's not like he's making those calls now.
I would be embarrassed if my HC spent 5 minutes "calling around" talking to officials in two conferences about something that won't make one difference in the outcome of the game. It's wasted time and effort ... he could have been recruiting which affects his future. It shows a lack of maturity, IMO.How is he whining? Just so we're clear, him calling officials after the game to get clarity about why a call was made that he disagreed with is immature? Sounds like he's trying to learn a bit more about the most inconsistently called penalty in college football, and I don't blame him. I don't see him saying he's still pissed about it or dwelling on it. He was asked about it so he answered.I would be embarrassed if my HC spent 5 minutes "calling around" talking to officials in two conferences about something that won't make one difference in the outcome of the game. He is also doing this when he is well aware that his player, who is the one who was actually hit, has stated on public record it wasn't targeting.
To be clear, I don't really care. He's not my coach.Just so we're clear, him calling officials after the game to get clarity about why a call was made that he disagreed with is immature? You care, otherwise you wouldn't respond. Being embarrassed by a man you have no tie to other than your rooting interest is, frankly, embarrassing. You guys were very lucky to come out alive after facing us and then won the NCG by 58, so if that's what we get from our HC, I'm cool with it.To be clear, I don't really care. He's not my coach.
But, yes, had Smart called officials about the offsides in the 2017 NC, I would have been embarrassed. I just don't think that coaches should be concerned about penalty calls after a game. As I pointed out, his own player who was "targeted" disagrees with him. And, it won't change a thing. He should just move on and let it die.
To what end do you think he is going to learn anything? Calls like those are one-offs, based on the very specific facts of the situation.
I would hope that my coach would respond with something like "penalties are part of the game. We had many chances to win the game and didn't. We will learn from a painful loss and move on. I like where the team is heading going into this coming season and we look forward to getting back to the playoffs and winning a championship."
I mean, I care to the extent that I am discussing it on a sports board because someone else was discussing it on another sports board. But if you think I've wasted any other mental energy on it, you are sadly mistaken. You care, otherwise you wouldn't respond. You spend a fair amount of time starting threads about things you don’t care about. To be clear, I don't really care.
