Transfer Portal

Surprised to see CFP-likely teams having players opt out.
I'm not.. Maalik Murphy portal'd before the CFP last year.. He had to because Duke's spot might not have been available had he waited til the Spring.

at this time of the year, you gotta watch for yourself/

Took longer than I expected.

man what a year for this guy.. sooners wanted him to replace DG last season, then were happy when DG portal'd.. and after 3 games, couldn't wait to get rid of him.. All the trolling by the landthieves about Quinn or Arch portaling..

and they both outlasted their 2 favorite QBs there (DG/Arnold) LOL

It's a been a wild ride. I know JA didn't get a fair shake with the injurys on offense but he may be ruined. Not have a qb coach killed him as well. I wish the guy the best but he just isn't it. Not at Oklahoma anyways.

about time a QB leaves OU and goes off to win the heismann. turnabout and all that. :dhd:

Think there will be much of a line of teams hoping for his services?
A guy that highly rated, I think you have to take a chance if you're a mid-level program. I don't think you'll see him go to any "elite" school. I'd take my chances with a 5 or even 4-star recruit after seeing what JA did on the field, but what do I know.

least surprising story of the day. Jaylen Henderson went in too, also not surprising.

How do you like Reed? I thought he had a great freshman season

No idea it will be interesting to see if he ends back up in the SEC. I see Auburn has interest in him already.

that reminds me of Nick Marshall. dude could ball. 31 td's that 2014 season.

This one hurts but is not surprising. Dude was easily our best defender. Sucks but again, not surprising.

Sure seems like some QBs that flame out at their first school end up doing pretty well at another. Maybe he will.

shame Klein wasn't the OC when Haynes was on the roster @fordman84 .. he would have another version of Will Howard

The portal is going to be so full of players this year. I'd hate to be a player with nothing on film after riding the pine for a year or two.

Yeah rookie football contracts are all higher than NIL deals, so there isn't even that reason to stick around. If you are drafted in rounds 4-7 then you weren't getting the top NIL deals to begin with, so your NFL offer is higher.

Baseball is where we are starting to see more kids reject the MLB draft to stay in school. NIL deals there far outpace the minor league pay unless you are a top 10 pick. Even then, do you want 4-5 years of D1 college ball where you fly and stay in nice places or 4-5 years of minor league ball making less and riding the busses everywhere?
It used to be that if there was an older college football player, it was usually a minor league baseball burnout. Chris Weinke, Brandon Weeden, Hayden Hurst, etc. guess it worked out for those three since they all got drafted and spent years in the NFL, with Weeden even getting first round money

NIL will eventually get capped and CFB will collude with the NFL to again make money for some NCAA like org and we will get back to those days. I wonder if they will do away with red-shirts and just say you have 4 years + a graduate year to play CFB or else put an age limit on it. You can play CFB until you are 24, but at 25 you are too old to play against 18 year olds.
