Can we switch the tracks to running over the government?

The ethical argument is about responsibility of inaction. Also, an excellent place to start a discussion about utilitarian philosoohy.
How about the only ethical responsibility a man has is to not violate the natural rights of his fellow man unless they consensually enter into a contract stating otherwise.

The five people on the main track are:
- a multiple pet owner who lives in a condo
- urban bicyclist
- vegan
- crossfitter
- devout reader of Ayn Rand

the lone person on the side track is a guy who loves quoting Napoleon Dynamite, Swingers, and Tarantino films.
This made it a no brainer.

the vegan has told the other 4 she’s a vegan so many times since they were tied up that they all want to die.

THEY ALL told each other about their thing a million times. That’s why I picked those categories. Don’t step on the joke, son. Lol

What if the single person on the side track is the kind of person that always says “precip” every time it rains, sleets, or snows?
