We tried making moonshine in college once. It was hilariously low-budget. Plastic bottles with balloons on top as "airlocks", I think the yeast we used was bread yeast, and we were fermenting orange juice that we took from the cafeteria. Nobody would drink what we "distilled". Probably for the best.

haha, in college my roommate got one of those DIY beer kits that come with the little plastic keg so we decided to brew up a batch. Of course as we are reading the directions we read something like the more sugar you add the higher the alcohol content so we did what any underage dumb males would do and doubled the sugar. Then we mixed it all up and put at the bottom of the pantry.

Then forgot about it all semester. Literally ALL semester. When we were getting ready to move out we found it and opened it. Looked like Dr Pepper that poured out. I wasn't gonna even sniff it but my roommate took a sip, then proceeded to throw up directly in the sink.

I have no idea how I survived my youth. :L

Me and a buddy tried to do it legit, paint thinner wasn’t that rough. Decided then and there that I’m better off just buying it and supporting my local bootlegger

I plan on barrel aging my own bourbon at some point, but will let someone else provide the white dog. Buffalo Trace sells it, I have a 375 of it. Figure a couple of those in an at home barrel and ~5 years later see how I did.

We had an incident where the balloon wasn't tight enough or something on one bottle, and it was making a hissing sound. One of my suitemates went to check on it, and when he moved the balloon, like half the "mash" shot out. Our common room smelled like spoiled oranges for like a week.

Also, my second attempt at brewing beer didn't work out. My wife bought me a clone kit from a homebrew store. The ingredients weren't labeled, and the recipe also didn't specify the amount of extracts that were used. One container of extract was clear, so we thought it was priming sugar.

The bottles that didn't explode were ridiculously fizzy. Like, I could open a bottle in the sink, and put a jar next to the bottle, and catch about three quarters of the contents of the bottle as it shot out.

I’ve let a charred piece of oak soak in a quart jar of corn shine for a few months and it turned out really good

There are a lot of finishing kits showing up on the market now, since all the bourbon bro's are looking for wine finished bourbons and all that fancy shit.

I got one of those mini casks a few years ago, I aged some Evan Williams over coffee beans, and then poured it in there.

I would front, but Canadian Club Sherry blend is one of my favorite store bought liquors. Hard to find, but it’s good

I haven't had any wine finished bourbon that I've cared for, but I do like some of the Caribbean rum finished. Angle's Envy and more reasonably priced, Doc Swinson's.

The port cask bourbon that the local spot here made was fantastic.

That's why I'll let the experts with testing abilities make the mash.

Until the day after the SB. :L

There are a few that are good, but EVERYONE is doing it now. I'm just waiting for the "double finished" stuff to really catch on.

"finished in a port barrel for 4 months and then a nordic ice wine barrel for an additional 4 months".

not gonna lie, I'd try it but would hate myself for rewarding the finishers.

Was quite the 3 day weekend. Stepkids basically told their sperm donor that they wanted to change the schedule to be around him less. He basically threw a baby fit and they ended up coming home early. As mentioned wrestling took up everything but yesterday. Buck's buddy had gave up wrestling this year but decided he would fill in for their other buddy at our dual tournament. He went 3-0, and hopefully is coming back. Cousin N1 is now going to bring his boys over to practice with us. Could be good or bad as N1 can get unrealistic expectations for his boys.
