From what I read USC preferred To go alone but I guess the B1G needed two and that made the most sense.

I don't know as that USC cared one way or other. What I has heard is that the B1G wanted USC for sure, but wanted a 2nd team and USC spoke up for UCLA.

I don’t think USC have a rats behind about politics and being a private school they don’t answer to the state.

Yeah, USC doesn't have to operate under the same set of rules that UCLA does. It's a big reason why it's much easier for USC to hire and fire coaches much more quickly than UCLA. UCLA has a whole process they have to go through. At USC, the AD just needs to tell the President what he wants to do and how he's going to pay for it.

My best guess is they are hurting bad from COVID as well and this was their best out.

Not really. Boosters helped a lot, so USC wasn't effected all that much. Covid really only prevented them from firing Helton sooner. They were sick of getting $30 million in tv revenue while watching other blue bloods get $100 million+.

This would have happened even if Covid didn't happen.

I randomly watched this video since you posted it. I just scrolled through the video, stopping at random spots, and one comment by Musburger has me thinking in today's current climate. He commented that coaches say it is hard with only 85 scholarships...

With NIL being what it is, and all this money that is now being pumped into CFB, has the NCAA thought about increasing the scholarhship amount? I mean with all this money involved in the programs and schools, shouldn't MORE opportunities be given to student athletes everywhere and give out MORE free education?

Scholarships should be at like 125 with all the money these schools and programs are making. Why are they limiting the scholarships?

I doubt they will increase scholly limits or if they do it won't be by much and it will be for the same reason they limited them in the first place...trying to level the playing field.

Back when there were no scholarship limits the USC's, Alabama's, tOSU's, etc. would grab all of the talent. They would recruit players and just stash them on the roster to keep other schools from getting them. That's how schools had things like when USC had future Heisman trophy winner Marcus Allen spending a season or 2 playing fullback and blocking for Heisman winner Charles White before taking over at tailback.

Now, with NIL, it's mainly those same programs who are cleaning up with NIL money. If you increase scholly limits it likely reverts back to those same schools stashing players on their roster again. Accepting sitting out for a couple of seasons before getting your shot becomes a lot easier to do when you're getting paid 6 figures+ to do so.

150 man teams en sech
I know Oklahoma had players riding the pine who could have started anywhere else.
Wonder how they did that ??? :laugh3:

Same at USC. In the example I used, Marcus Allen could have started at RB as a freshman on any other PAC team and for most teams in the country...but chose to spend a couple of seasons as a backup at USC.

Wonder how they convinced him to do that? lol

I haven't read the entire thread.

Someone may have already brought this up and discussed it. Point me to the page if they have.

But....

What does this mean for The Grandaddy of Them All. The Rose Bowl?

What does this do to their Pac-B1G affiliation?

Fuck the PAC. Lions do not concern themselves with the opinions of lambs.

Haven't seen anything on it yet. But I would have to think that unless the PAC figures out a way to remain a viable P5 conference, it will end that affiliation.
