I asked that question before the draft...but I will let @UK Cowboy decide. To me I thought the player had to play the position at some point in his career but what you are saying makes sense

I was considering a similar move and I took it as you could draft him (rod) and switch his position to play CB, but you can only draft 1 set of safeties, so you would have to draft a CB who played safety to make the switch. Or else, you have to play rod at safety.
 
Nevermind. My scenario was a little different.
