Underrated songwriters

I kinda feel like Prine gets his due as one of the best ever, but Steve Goodman is definitely an underrated songwriter. Kristofferson discovered both of them BTW.

Yep. I was nominating Goodman. This is my fave song by him. Just giving songwriting credit to Prine. I have heard The City of New Orleans enough this week.
 
Japanese, jazz-fusion guitarist -- Kazumi Watanabe

I think he's right up there with the likes of Pat Metheny, Jeff Beck, Allan Holdsworth, Scott Henderson, in terms of compositional style. He also has fantastic chops, to boot.

 
I don't know about under rated, but Gordon Lightfoot is a first class inductee in the Lyrics HOF.
