Urban Meyer Superthread

So the rumor that CDC and Art Briles have been spending weekends on the lake might have some meaning after all?
That would be delicious.

I'm just not sure there is a big enough plan B name out there right now. Franklin just mailed in a terrible year, so that's a hard sell.

There's not.

Unless you're able to land an established elite coach (Urbs, Saban, Swinney), everybody else is a crapshoot. Even Riley (OU) and Day (tOSU) are crapshoots at this point. Let's see how they look in a couple years when their programs are their own and not what they inherited.
See Helfrich at Oregon. Kept things going for a couple years before the bottom fell out.

At some point you need to realize you crapped out on your last hire and need to roll the dice again.

I give tejas fans a hard time, but I realize they are a better program than what they've put on the field for the last 11 years. With their economic and talent resource advantages over the rest of CFB, they should be an elite team year in and year out.
In what's now year 4 of the Herman era, tejas is his product.
It's time to roll the dice again to see if they can get a coach to at least get them back to 'periodic' relevance as their history shows.

If they're still alive.......Hire the guy who rolled the dice for LSU when they evaluated Saban for the job, or the guy who evaluated Sweeney for Clemson job, or the guy who evaluated Urbs for the Florida job.

Prior to going to LSU, Saban had gone (6-5-1), (6-6), (7-5), (6-6), and (9-2) at Michigan St. Nebraska drilled Michigan St (50-10) in 1995 and (55-17) in 1996. Yet someone at LSU saw a winner.

Tell the tejas boosters to sit down, STFU, and keep their opinions out of it.

Really about the only funny thing left I could see would be if Texas bought out Jimbo's contract and gave him a larger one with a larger buyout.

I understand that but given the public nature of search, it has seriously damaged Herman’s ability to recruit and even coach. I see holding on to him far riskier than going for someone like Campbell or Napier

Campbell would be a crapshoot, but probably the lowest risk available at this time. That's IF he's available to listen. He's got it made at Iowa St where the expectations are low. Iowa St would likely give him a decent pay raise to keep him onboard.

This would be a good time for Campbells agent to start Campbell to tejas rumors and get him a healthy raise and contract extension.

***Nick Sabans agent liked this***

tejas finished 9th overall in the Big XII in 1997. Nebraska went undefeated, finished #1, and won the Bowl Allaince National Championship.

But "Nebraska was never the same after losing to them in '96" - Thiefery

There it is.... Just the facts.

Nobody underachieves like tejas. NOBODY!!
So you’re proving that Texas beat NU several times when NU was good. So you were lying before. And lying now stating Texas is underachieving and that the proof is wins over NU. You’re a dunce.

Not at all.

I think I proved tejas beat Nebraska when Nebraska was NOT good.

Arizona State pitched a shutout (19-0) when they beat Nebraska in 1996. Nebraska managed 27 points against tejas in a (27-37) loss that same season. In public school maffs, a 19 point victory (with shutout) >>> a 10 point victory (also giving up 27 points).

Nebraska beat tejas (22-6) in the Big 12 Championship in 1999.

It was after that Nebraska turned to shit and tejas racked up 7 straight wins.

Congratulations, you're Iowa.

Are you denying that..... "Nobody underachieves like tejas. NOBODY!!"

Thought Jimbo didn't have a buyout?

It’s pretty simple. Recruits and players know that Texas isn’t happy with Herman. Not sure how he recruits with that in the public. What happens if they lose a game or 2 in 2021? Are the players going to listen to him?
But unless Urbs changes his mind or we are all getting played and he’s already agreed are you really up for changing from one mediocre coach to another? I always agreed that if Urbs could be had you guys should go for him, but at this point I’m not sure someone like Franklin or Cristobal is better then Herman. Not sure what you have coming back next year but if it’s a significant amount I’d think long and hard about replacing Herman for someone like James Franklin.

So lets bring back Tom for another year where he's a sitting duck like Helton at SC was? Nope, if they have the money (which they do), wipe the slate clean

This assumes that you pick another mediocre coach. I will say a mediocre coach with the support of the administration is likely to outperform a coach that does not have the support of the administration, boosters, and fans. This is less about Herman the coach and more about the fact that the perception is he is a dead man walking

He’s been there a few years. This isn’t the same thing as bringing in the coach and putting in a new system. Trading one mediocre coach for another usually doesn’t solve problems from a program.

Who is out there realistically y’all can get that’s not mediocre?

Trading one mediocre coach for another is going to set the program back again. So what it’s an extra year, that’s one more year compared to the likely 3 you’ll give the next mediocre coach. A perception of a one year walking dead coach is very much more preferable to a 3 year walking dead coach.

Actually finding a good coach is not really the problem. There are lot of solid coaches out there. Finding a coach that can coach, recruit, and understand the politics is another situation. Let me ask you a question where would you rank Herman among Big 12 coaches?

I’m not sure there are any available better that fit your asking. Hence my trading one mediocre coach for another Comment.

Probably 4, sure he should be higher. Not sure who out there would move the needle on getting better then 4 at the moment.

Texas needs to start a GoFundMe to fire their boosters.
