i still don't understand how they project that when ESPN said they weren't even going to entertain early talks just a year ago. Like what makes them project that the new deal will pay them more now that UT and ou are gone? UH/Cincy/UCF/BYU that much of an addition? 12 schools are now going to make more than when it was just 10?
I don't know, man.. guess I gotta see what the new contract is for whenever they begin negotiating.. (which again, is probably THE biggest reason Bowlsby was canned)
yeah that was so short sighted and emotional. Lets threaten the current media rights holder before we negotiate again.. Bowlsby is an idiot. It probably didn't help their cause that Bowlsby was threatening to sue ESPN.
iowa 177-100If you say so.
You named the two schools that would be the hardest to get. Plus UNC would go SEC before B1G and they would insist on Duke. This is the only way it could work. There would have to be a west coast pod. There's no way the Big Ten could just add USC and Oregon and call it good.
But I agree with your last thought. I think it's far more likely the Big Ten starts poaching the ACC. North Carolina and Virginia being the main targets.
Memphis was a no brainer.I’m too lazy to do any research, but I thought it was incredibly stupid that the Big 12 picked Houston over a dozen or so other teams. You have some pretty decent choices too IMO.
Army, Air Force, App St., Boise St., Fresno St., Hawaii, LA Lafayette, Liberty, Memphis, Nevada, N. Illinois, San Diego St., UNLV, etc.
And those idiots pick another TX school. I mean, seriously. Wtf, brah.
As you said, Duke and UNC are probably a package deal. I’m not sure why UVA would be hard for the Big Ten to get. Duke and UNCs academics types would prefer the Big Ten to the SEC. However, if the SEC would make them more money, they’d probably go for thatYou named the two schools that would be the hardest to get. Plus UNC would go SEC before B1G and they would insist on Duke.
The boosters would want SEC.As you said, Duke and UNC are probably a package deal. I’m not sure why UVA would be hard for the Big Ten to get. Duke and UNCs academics types would prefer the Big Ten to the SEC. However, if the SEC would make them more money, they’d probably go for that
I don't think either of those is true. They are more culturally a fit for the B1G than the SEC, and Duke is a private school with no legislative ties to UNC. Their rivalry would survive. You named the two schools that would be the hardest to get. Plus UNC would go SEC before B1G and they would insist on Duke.
I lived in NC for two years and I can tell you right now the fanbase would stroke if the administration chose the B1G over the SEC. If UNC comes into play (which couldn't happen until 2036 and so much would need to take place to make that a reality that I really don't see it happening unless ND jumps ship) they are a whale that everyone will want (Virginia not so much) and I would be shocked beyond belief if that choice was not the SEC.I don't think either of those is true. I do think the SEC would target both UNC and Duke (for hoops and another Vandy level football program). But no slam dunk. UNC folks are arrogant as hell about their academics, their scandal notwithstanding.

For the record to get UNC everyone is going to offer Duke as well but I just don't see it happening. The ACC has risen from the dead so many times I just don't see them going anywhere and P5s don't need another conference failure.
lol UNC is nothing like UT man lol..NOTHINGI agree. I think UNC is a lot like Texas. They are cocky about the Academics on the outside but, in reality, would pick SEC over B1G just like Texas did. Plus they are just a better cultural fit in the SEC. They share a border with two SEC states right now and would have nice rivalries with South Carolina and Tennessee (plus UK basketball).
I’ve lived in Cary, NC, for 21 years, I’m 20 minutes from Duke, UNC, and NCState. I have close friends who are large donors at UNC. I have a kid at UNC. I listen to ACC dominated sports talk radio every day.I lived in NC for two years and I can tell you right now the fanbase would stroke if the administration chose the B1G over the SEC. You are nuts if you think the Carolina fanbase and boosters are going to want to schedule games with Minnesota, Iowa, Rutgers, Wisconsin, Illinois, Nebraska and Northwestern instead of Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky.I’ve lived in Cary, NC, for 21 years, I’m 20 minutes from Duke, UNC, and NCState. They envy the money the SEC and the B1G are generating. They are concerned what it means to them and fairness in football. But, they don’t really care about football. They are all basketball. Football is something you have to wait through to get to basketball season.
Academics means a ton to them. They don’t look at any of the SEC schools as their equal. They are a much better fit culturally with the BIG.
I’m not going to say what happens in 12 years but the B1G seems far more likely than the SEC for UNC, Duke and UVa. Clemson, FSU for better with the SEC.
lol if that's their stance then good luck to their version of the BIG EAST conference, because Clemson/FSU/UM aren't going to standby and watch. All that being said it never happens. The Tabacco Road mafia will keep the ACC intact and as long as they have ND to carry them in football ratings then it won't be hard to do.
I think you were inadvertently obtuse to list the B1G's terrible teams and not the SEC's. You really think they are hankering for games in Starkville, and Columbia MO? You also haven't given any thought to the culture issue that I raised. I love amongst them ... they are one arrogant group - albeit likable - and academics means a ton to them. I believe that alone would preclude them from going to the SEC ... their faculty will have a large say-so in what happens. If you don't believe that, you don't understand the academic arrogance of UNC and their ACC brethren. You are nuts if you think the Carolina fanbase and boosters are going to want to schedule games with Minnesota, Iowa, Rutgers, Wisconsin, Illinois, Nebraska and Northwestern instead of Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky.
Granted Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and even Indiana would make some good basketball games but after that it's not even going to be close. Add in Texas and Oklahoma in the mix and it's a no-brainer for UNC to go to the SEC.
Let's face it Texas and Oklahoma could have gone to the B1G but there is a reason they didn't and it's cultural fit.
All that being said it never happens. The Tabacco Road mafia will keep the ACC intact and as long as they have ND to carry them in football ratings then it won't be hard to do.
You underestimate the academic arrogance of UNC. It's an amazing sight to behold, I assure you. Culturally, they are way more like a B1G school than an SEC school. Not that it makes my opinion right, but it helps that for 21 years I've lived here, most of my best friends went to UNC, their kids go to UNC, I now have a son at UNC. You seriously have to live it to understand it, perhaps.I agree. I think UNC is a lot like Texas. They may dislike football, but at the end of the day, football is the reason why they are able to continue to shell out for the latest basketball facilities and coaching salaries. Hell Kansas has been known to pump most of it's TV rights moneys into the bball program not the football one.
what makes them think ND sticks, the ACC is getting killed in their TV rights deal. It's going to continue to get wider and wider. Do you think ESPN will decide to open up the window early to renegotiate their original deal?Clemson and FSU aren’t going anywhere until 2036 and that’s a long time.
By then they might not even be worth picking up.
Clemson’s run has been phenomenal but all think we can agree that it’s going to be tough to claw back and with Dabo’s attitude towards NIL and the portal really hard.
FSU hasn’t been relevant in 10 years and if that continues they will be damaged goods.
Miami might have the best shot but I’m not sure they would be worth it. There just aren’t many schools that move the needle.
I think they all end up sticking together and ND renews because there isn’t another option for them. The ACC survives.
ND’s deal is independent of the ACC.what makes them think ND sticks, the ACC is getting killed in their TV rights deal. It's going to continue to get wider and wider. Do you think ESPN will decide to open up the window early to renegotiate their original deal?
