Something is going on. Not sure it's mental toughness.

The one positive that pretty much everyone agrees on with Helton is that the kids play hard for him and never quit. That's the only reason they are 2-0.

But, the other thing everyone agrees on is that they don't always play smart and/or disciplined football.

It seems like there's always something that either costs them the game or makes it closer than it should be.

Last week it was turnovers. This week it was penalties. I'm hoping that what we've seen so far is just the result of the shortened training camp and only being 2 games into the season.

Problem is, we've seen every one of Helton's teams do this every season.

Well, sure everyone wants that from their team but they beat what I think (FWIW) a tough ASU team and now a AZ team on the road.
Now I dont think SC is any kind of world beater but imo they DO look a little better this year offensively at least.

Whats the realistic expectation this year iyo?

Yeah, they struggled with that soft zone that the Arizona schools used, but Slovis has been more patient this year. Last years team would be 0-2 right now.

Realistically, they should be able to win the PAC South at the least and the PAC-12 at best. I think the cfp is a long shot, even if they finish 7-0. Not even considering the number of games played...the "eye test" is going to be huge this year and unless they get shit figured out quick...USC won't pass it.
