USC/ND rivalry may be done after this year..........

The game has historically drawn better when it's been played at the end of the season. The 2012 and 2018 games got monster ratings. 2012 was almost peak OSU/Michigan numbers.

Yeah, that would be my guess as well. I guess the timing was perfect for the Clemson series just in case SC pussies out.
What those games had in common was ND had BCS championship/playoff berth on the line with the game. Most other years since 2012 neither was in contention. Last year probably did better because it was win or die for ND and in 2023 USC was undefeated going into that game but they in retrospect weren’t that strong.

is this really on RIley??
He’s made a lot of public remarks that would seem to indicate yes. Probably complained more after joining the Big10 too because of the extra travel.

Yep, outside of 2017, and it's mostly USC's fault, neither team has been like a top 10 team for the whole year. I do wish we had access to the 2024 rating. I'm curious about that one

ND should just join the B1G. Problem solved
Fuck em. We tried they said no. We went on to become a national brand instead of some rural IN perennial doormat. You can thank Fielding Yost and Michigan for that.

All the evidence says yes. He reportedly tried to back out of the LSU game last year. They also canceled a home and home with Ole Miss for thisi season and next season. Dude runs away from games.
If it were a team located in California and he was trying to skip out on a game -- I can see calling him out about running away from games.

I'm definitely not a fan of Riley, but it has to be absolutely brutal flying across country to play games. They are going from from pacific time zone to central time zone, to pacific time zone, to eastern time zone, to pacific time zone. All why flying 1,000's of miles with all those kids. It has to be a pain in the ass.

This year alone, they fly to Indiana to play Purdue, then back to Cali to play a home game, then to Illinois to play, then back to Cali to play, then to Indiana to play ND, then back to Cali, then to Nebraska to play, then back to Cali.

With the upgrade in their schedule with all the new opponents in the B1G, scheduling more big OOC teams doesn't make sense, especially if it means adding another cross country trip to play it every other year.

USC can shit and bark at the moon.

Wisconsin vs ND at Lambeau every year for the KickOff game.
That'd be a great game to watch and it makes sense as they are close to each other.

Just being in the B1G doesn't automatically guarantee you'll have a difficult schedule. Look at Indiana's last year. Especially with how imbalanced they are.

Yes, the travel does suck. But that's what they signed up for. Nobody forced them to join the B1G. They had to do that because they were largely becoming irrelevant and that's with playing a Pac 12 schedule.

Riley is scared of playing good opponents. It's why he wanted to get out of the LSU game (which was in Las Vegas) backed out of the ole Miss home and home and now this.

Famous USC alum rips Lincoln Riley.

They knew that this was a strong possibility but as always.. Money makes you overlook things

I agree -- you may have a year here or there where you miss the top teams or the top teams have a down year in the B1G. At the same time, if you are scheduling these OOC games against other top programs, you can end up with an absolutely brutal schedule.

It isn't as if USC is the only school cancelling OOC games -- a lot of teams are and a lot more teams will follow suit after seeing schools like SMU and Indiana get into the CFP without a single win over a ranked team. That has shown schools they can go cupcakes in OOC and then just deal with their big conference games to get in.

The only teams who need the OOC games are in the ACC, Big 12 and Independents, as they won't have anywhere near the strength of schedule the teams in the SEC and B1G will have from conference games.

Yeah -- they aren't the first team to make a foolish decision based on money. Nebraska sold out their entire football program for the B1G money they get. The West Coast did it, as they were either going to be left out of the super conferences or they'd have to do a lot of travelling.

Yeah, I would agree. If USC keeps playing ND, they will have a more difficult schedule. Riley is a little pussy so if course he wants to drop it. Even alumni and boosters have spoken out against it already. It looks really weak.

Also, I wouldn't say SMU's OOC schedule was easy. IU's absolutely was though.

Not saying Money wasn't a factor but Nebraska wanted to leave the Big12, they always viewed themselves as the same powerhouse football program of the 80s and 90s.. which they weren't anymore. They put a lot of blame on Texas and their former Big 8 colleagues for always voting with Texas on things.

I give them credit though.. Mizzu was the ones who were legs wide open and not making a secret that they wanted to join the BiG.. Nebraska went the different approach behind the scenes to get it done.

BiG finished taxing them right? (which is crazy how they had to forfeit so much money just to join the BiG lol)

B1G didn't like what they saw between those wide open legs. But the SEC wanted salivated over some of that Show Me State pussy!

That was like 100 years ago.

You don't need the B1G, and you don't need the money. It's cool that ND keeps their independence, but you can't also complain that you're unable to schedule some long time big rivalry games because they are tied up in difficult conferences and don't have the capacity/will to take on another difficult game.

Fully join the ACC and beat up on creampuffs. Get in the playoffs every year.
