Utah AD Says Player Was Offered $1 Million To Transfer

A member of the Utah Utes was allegedly offered $1 million to transfer. Who was the player? Did he leave the team?

“We had a player who was offered, I believe, about a million dollars to pull him over to another team. I called that AD and had a discussion, right? And he’s frustrated. Everybody’s frustrated. Because this was a friend, it was a friendly call. It was just to say, ‘Listen, it happened.’ My colleague was—embarrassed is not the right word, but he was frustrated,” athletic director Mark Harlan explained to Sports Illustrated.

It’s noted the player did not leave Utah.


Ok so no one is shocked by this and everyone suspected this type of stuff was going and the truth is it is only going to get worse. The only way to fix what has happened is to literally put all the players under contract and pay them a set salary and each team has a cap. We've created a system where top players are going to put themselves in the portal every year in order to get offers. College football has created a system that has unlimited free agency with no salary cap and that isn't substainable.

It's sad that we have gotten to this point.

Auburn would probably 4-1 right now if they had just bought a QB. For example if they had given Jordan Jefferson of Arkansas 1 million to transfer they probably beat LSU and Ole Miss as the QB turnovers were the difference.

Coaches are getting paid too much and have too much at stake not to cross this line.
 
1. NIL offers aren't allowed to come from the schools.

2. Limit the number of times a player can enter the portal. No point in someone offering NIL money if the kid can't transfer.

3. A player shouldn't be allowed to be contacted if he's not in the portal, but I'm not sure how you police that.
 
Im just surprised that player didnt leave if he thought it was a real offer.
 
it had to be Cam Rising.. not sure anyone else on that roster is worth a million.. I bet it was oklahoma too..

He's the first name I thought of. No guess as to which school though, my first thought would be a fellow PAC school. That's a double-whammy; add him to your roster and take him away from a competitor school

depends on why anyone thinks a college player is worth a million in the first place
could have been a player like the RB Tavion Thomas or the TE Brant Kuithe

depends on when it happened. i think the schools that could offer that much had their transfers like Penix, Nix, and Williams or had a guy like DTR in place.

At 18 to 20 if you paid me a million dollars I would've played for Bama.

Now they probably would have gotten really pissed when I "accidentally" didn't make that tackle in the Auburn game but such is life.
