VT /Fuente part ways

The Golden Age of college football may be over. Costs are out of control, there is absolutely zero allegiance left in the game by the players or the coaches......and the economy is headed for trouble. I could list a dozen signs of why the game is headed for choppy water but one phrase sums it all up: Too Much Chaos.

NIL killed it. We are headed to a semi-pro state where conference commissioners are going to make and enforce the rules in some type of non-binding alliance. Chaos sums it up.

Recruiting and development became that of a dumpster fire. Also qb play after Jerod Evans (2016) went to shit and he was supposed to be a "qb whisperer" of a coach. Laughable at best.

I imagine Hendon Hooker's success at Tennessee didn't help his cause as well.

Here is the thing on Fickle. He needs to make a move this year because going to a new league and losing Ridder (who has been a massive piece of his success) is going to make the Cincy job so much harder. You aren’t going to get him over USC or LSU but who knows the direction they are going. VT is perfect part of the country for Fickle and it’s a P5 job with a ton of upside. VT is not a top 10 job buts it’s top 25 and has more stability than a lot of the top 10s.

Stoops is probably close to peaking at KY because how far can they really take the program with Tenn getting better? The ACC is ripe for someone to step up and be a consistent power.

Avoid Freeze like the plague.
Beamer would be bad for both parties IMO.

From insider information that I heard from LSU fans, Jimbo Fisher is their top target with Dave Aranda also under high consideration. Despite Fisher being the top target, I think Aranda is the most likely candidate.

Not sure who USC is after.

Washington now 4th best job available?

Exactly - there have been a couple of comments by HH after his Tennessee games this year where he states that your coach is able to leverage his talent instead of trying to force Hendon to only a certain play style.

Also if interested - Jerod Evans spoke out a bit on Fuente and his desire to use him as a battering ram despite his (minor) injuries and his desire to do a bit more. Some of it sounds like sour grapes but it is intriguing -

Jimbo went pretty strong yesterday in his press conference that he wasn’t going. To the point saying he would be the biggest idiot on earth to make that move and to make that decision should automatically disqualify him from being fit to hold the job.

That’s pretty much what he said. So that’s your normal denial on steroids. I don’t think he is moving plus he has two families now to consider and medical facilities for one of his boys.

I just don’t see it.

I agree. I was just told he was the top target. The AD at LSU was the same one that hired him to Texas A&M so there are a lot of connections there. I think Aranda would make the move though even if he has only been at Baylor a single season.

This is Aranda’s 2nd season isn’t it?

You are correct.

Aranda has that LSU connection of being the DC in 2019. This is why I think he is probably the most likely candidate and all of the rumors are pointing to him.

I don't think he is going to leave but if Jim Leonhard decides to go head coach job hunting, someone best jump early.

So, what went wrong at VT ??
Fuente seemed to be the perfect hire at the time, and was doing good things at Memphis.

Proving that being successful at the G5 level is a crapshoot when taking same coach to the P5 level.

Urbs was an anomaly. The pile of successful G5 coach carcasses that failed at the P5 level is deep.

Same can be said for P5 coordinators that make the jump to HC.

Saban has the ultimate strategy in snatching up those failed P5 head coaches in putting them back where they had original success at Alabama.

These many bluebloods that are having a hard time finding their way back to their glory days should be taking notes from the G.O.A.T.
Instead they're all about keeping their buddies employed.

^ This. VT's OC should of been let go three years ago and Fuente went ride-or-die with him.

CFB is running out of even "somewhat decent" HCs with all these firings... :pop2:

Saban ADs don't have a great track record either.

1. Jeremy Pruitt
2. Will Muschamp
3. Steve Sarkisian (yeah it is early but not looking good)
4. Derek Dooley
5. Butch Jones (struggling at Arkansas State)
6. Jim McElwain
7. Bo Pelini

The most successful ones have been Kirby Smart, Jimbo Fisher, and Lane Kiffin.

Well if @WhiteMamba is right and Moorehead and Norvell are the top targets then they can take their time because no one else will want them.
they still have to stay ahead of WSU. if they take their time they dont want to let WSU swoop in on their target.

It is crazy time as so many historical Football Programs have been down for almost a decade (or longer) now and our desperate to get things turn around.

1. Texas
2. USC
3. Tennessee
4. Miami
5. FSU
6. Virginia Tech - yeah, I know they aren't that high level but they had a strong program throughout 1990s and 2000s and kind of broke through like Oregon and Wisconsin
7. Michigan - The perception isn't good but this team has a decent record. Issue is inability to beat Ohio State
8. Nebraska
9. UCLA
10. Washington
