The one item that has to be watched is fate of Pac12. If Pac12 dies and Big12 grabs teams from Pac12, they now have to navigate scheduling with 12+4 potential Pac12 teams + OU & Texas for two years. That is 18 teams.

Rumor is that the new Big12 AD is using OU/Texas situation to leverage a better contract from ESPN and letting OU and Texas exit early in return.

The one that will decide whether OU and Texas leaves early maybe fate of Pac12. IMO, Pac12 got a boost for surviving with expansion playoff. No way a Pac12 team makes it to playoffs prior to expansion but they are likely in after expansion. Pac12 will need to figure out how to get a semi-decent TV deal.

USC/UCLA leave in 23
BIGXII adds 4 in 23
OU/TX leave BXII in 25 at the same time BXII adds any more Pac if they truly are dead.

It’s definitely a weird situation where:

UCLA & USC join the B1G in July 2023.

Big 12 adds their group of teams August 2024.

New SEC Network deal goes into effect 2024.

I didn’t consider the issues that the B12 had with so many schools coming in and 2 halfway out the door. So if ESPN steps up then that solves the buyout issue. I just wonder what the B12 number is because it’s obvious the PAC is getting squeezed for less.

Still helpful that you posted. A lot of rumors out there.

I am still leaning at 2024 being the year. I think 2023 is still too aggressive (frankly we will find out before end of season if 2023 is going to happen). 2025 just seems too late as well. I think they would buy out the 2024 year to get things going.

The rumors as to why Big12 may want OU and Texas gone is to make room for additional teams from Pac12. Still just rumors.

There are two things that have to happen where they could do 2023:

- ESPN gest the majority of the B12 contract and moves some money around to make the B12 whole, or close thereto.

- They get the 12-team CFP worked out so it can go in 2023. I don't think they move to the SEC until that is done because the SEC won't go to 9 IC games without divisions until the CFP is 12 teams, and they won't want to rework divisions and schedules twice - once when OU and TX come in, and then again when the CFP goes to 12.

I still tend to lean more towards 2024 but that is a very GLARING fact that Oklahoma backed out of that tournament. The key thing about these basketball tournament is that you cannot have 2 teams from same conference. So OU dropping out of a basketball tournament with another SEC team in it at the last minute in 2023 is suspicious. The guy I posted follows OU far better than @WhosYourDawggy so I think there is some weight here to these rumors.

There have also been cancellation of volleyball, baseball, and softball series between SEC and OU/Texas.

My argument, as you put it, is that you and others that are trying to look at unrelated decisions to try and determine when OU and TX are coming into the SEC is stupid, in my opinion. Now, we/I post a lot of stupid shit here, so you are good company.

I really don't care that much about this, but I was pointing out that this OU video is some guy going way too far down a rat hole in breathless anticipation that he's found the secret to the fact OU and TX are coming in soon. In fact, the idea of these games being cancelled has been discussed for over a year ... they have been in negotiations finding substitutes for almost that long. It just got announced yesterday.
