There's nothing I can really do but use repellants. They're everywhere.
I spray chemicals on "my" property, but they either don't care, or they just come in from elsewhere.

Why can't the candles/fuel use the same thing as the item they say works?

So…daughter #2 came home from morning practice and came into my office to do homework. Somehow, the question came up about the longest song I know. I said, off the top of my head, the song 2112 by Rush took up a whole side of an album.

That’s a bummer. I used to own several acres. Thought it would be amazing until I realized I couldn’t really enjoy it w all the bugs.
In a sub now, and two summers ago I got those mantis eggs. I never once saw a mantis but I didn’t see any other bugs either. No wasps, no mosquitoes, no flies etc...it was pretty impressive.

Our youngest started pre-K today. Time's passing quickly.
When you sit at the light about half a mile away in the morning, you can see swarms of mosquitoes just flying around your car. Then, I'm around a bunch of other renters who probably don't really take that much care (and neither do the landlords, there's multiple standing water places around garages), and a lot of ground cover vegetation because it's easy to maintain.
Damn. I remember when you were a degenerate with no kids and now you’re a degenerate with three kids in school.

Last night, I was going to pick up Slinkette and I turned on SiriusXM's Grateful Dead channel. They were doing 'This Date In Grateful Dead History' where they play a concert from that date from the past.
Last's night's show was 9/7/90 at Richfield Coliseum. That was the first Dead concert I went to. Thirty-one fucking years ago. . .

It’s been about that long. I don’t think I started at FN until around 2006 or so, but that’s still 15 years.

Candles or tiki torches contain citronella oil and are released as a smoke, which confuses mosquitoes and hinders their ability to smell the carbon dioxide and lactic acids that attract them to you.
Although they do keep mosquitoes away, they only do so within a 2 metre range, which is the length of your average basketballer lying down on the ground. When you think of it like that, that's not a lot of area. And who wants to be drinking beers and eating potato chips outside with potentially toxic fumes all up in your face? And if there's any kind of breeze, just forget about it; your tiki torch ain't gonna work.
I have torches around the perimeter of my deck. By and large, when those are lit, people don't get bitten at the table.
