Season didn't get off to a good start. Doesn't look like we have the pitching to compete. We'll see how it goes.

Nice to see the site working today. Great job everybody.

morning

back in the office, back to wearing office clothes (we go casual during the outage).

Heading to NJ this weekend to meet the new nephew. Pretty excited for that.

Gotta watch more tape.

Tournament Saturday where I think we have a pretty good chance. Got our 3 qualifier opponents and it’s all teams we are familiar with.

Spring season starts in two weeks then the Lions Regional in Detroit near the end of the month.

Complete against who though
The other team ran out pitchers who were throwing hard and throwing strikes. I've got maybe two I feel good like that, the rest of the kids are a work in progress. It's town ball, so even if we suck, it's not the end of the world.

What age level is this?

10-11. Most of my kids are 10. I have 2 11s. One might turn into my best pitcher, but he's only played baseball for 2 years. As far as I know, most of my kids don't just play baseball, which I think is great. Pretty sure the better pitchers on the other teams in the league get year round private instruction.

I’m a football coach but I’ve been around a lot of baseball kids who have played for me and with my son.

In my opinion you are doing a great job if you aren’t out there wrecking these kids arms. I see it way too often where these coaches push players (especially pitchers) to the brink of injury. Always tired, beat up and sore.

My cousin’s kid was the dude at that age - everybody said he had pro potential at 11 - pushed him too hard and the kid threw out his arm, it messed his head up and he never played again. Plays golf in college now instead of baseball.

A lot of these parents have their kids in stuff all week - soccer, baseball, training on the side - and it all wears them down. So if you aren’t that coach and your kids are having fun I’d say you’re doing just fine.

Guess that means your offense just needs to step up their game!

But it could get better, it is only the first game..

This!!! I mean kids are getting tommy john even before they need it now.. Which is ridiculous!

However, "good" teams this is what is needed to actually make the team if you want to succeed as a pitcher and that is "wrecking" your arm..

I wish more coaches were like my nieces softball couch.. U12.. All fundamentals and situational hitting and concentration on fielding.. He builds a strong bond with the kids and these kids actually care for one another.. heck my niece just starting softball last season as she played baseball and this team welcomed her and the players even went out of their way to help her learn 3rd base. Not many kids would do that!

Sorry to hear brother. I'm coaching flag football (my son has never played nor have I) and I feel like a fish out of water with all the different rules lol

Gonna be interesting

This my fear for my cousin N1's boys. I'm afraid Big E will get burn out in wrestling and K-Dawg will ruin his arm in baseball.

It's tough bc then I look at my kids & think they may have been off for too long. Bossy definitely as she's not played anything after her softball injury last year. Dodger has practiced once a week since basketball has been done. Buck & Grand haven't done anything since wrestling though they play something outside often. Lil W has been dancing since football season with a bit of wrestling mixed in.

There's a dude who was a year older than me who I played against once in high school. When he was 12 and 13, he pitched his team to the Little League World Series and the Senior World Series. By the time he got to high school, his arm was so fucked he could only play second base. His arm wasn't strong enough to play 2B in college, and he still was a good enough hitter to play D-1 as a DH at Rutgers (might even have made their HOF), and couldn't get a pro contract. I don't want to see that happen to a kid I coach.

I'm very much comfortable with the kids learning and getting better, and winning coming as a product of that rather than being the stated goal. We had kids out on the field after the game hitting and having fun. Couldn't ask for anything more.

My dad learned soccer so he could coach us. Had played and coached baseball and football when he was younger, don't know how much soccer he had played or watched before we started playing as kids.
