Week 11 Playoff Projections

What's wrong with that? I have no idea why so many B1G and SEC folks don't want to include other conferences in a NATIONAL Championship. Otherwise, let's just have the SEC Champion play the B1G Champion in the Rose Bowl every year and leave it at that. :)
I have long supported the AQ for the other P4 conferences. I would prefer that the G6 have their own playoff series.

It should be decided on the field and that includes the ACC and the B12. I can see this going to a 14 team playoff in 2026. Here is what that looks like:

Byes - SEC and B1G champs (not saying I like that, but it is what it is), and I am just going chalk right now.
Oregon
Texas

SMU @tOSU
BSU @PSU
UGA @Indiana
OM @BYU
Bama @Tenn
Miami @ND

16 teams would be:

KState @Oregon
ATM @Texas
SMU @tOSU
BSU @PSU
UGA @Indiana
OM @BYU
Bama @Tenn
Miami @ND

Carrying this out further the way I think they would go:
Oregon v. Miami
ATM v. Bama
tOSU v. OM
PSU v. UGA

I'll be curious as we get into year 3 and 4 with the same teams in the playoff what the bowl attendance for the round 2/3 matchups ends up being.

Going to be interesting. I think in general, having all six Bowl Games being relevant will help ticket sales, etc. Whatever the matchups, I think there will be both local and travel interest. Time will tell, I'm sure.

How is that different from before? It was basically the same teams in the BCS and then CFP-4 era. With 12 teams, and football being cyclical, it won't be the same teams. Hell, last year you had Texas, Bama, Washington, and Michigan and two of those won't get close this year, and Texas has to win out to get in.

I just did a quick query on the innerweb and found this ... since the BCS started, 1998, here are the teams that would have been in a 12 team CFP. I am not checking this, but let's assume it's at least close. I don't think we will have any problem with lots of different teams getting in. Especially when it goes to 14, and with NIL/tranfser you have more parity than most of these years. This was done 2 years ago.

  • Ohio State: 18
  • Oklahoma: 16
  • Alabama: 13
  • Florida: 12
  • LSU: 11
  • Georgia: 11
  • Florida State: 10
  • Oregon: 10
  • USC: 9
  • Notre Dame: 9
  • Wisconsin: 8
  • Kansas State: 8
  • Boise State: 8
  • Michigan: 8
  • TCU: 8
  • Clemson: 7
  • Texas: 7
  • Michigan State: 7
  • Penn State: 7
  • Miami: 6
  • Auburn: 6
  • Virginia Tech: 6
  • Stanford: 6
  • Tennessee: 5
  • Nebraska: 4
  • Baylor: 4
  • Utah: 4
  • Missouri: 4
  • Iowa: 4
  • Texas A&M: 3
  • Cincinnati: 4
  • Washington: 4
  • Arkansas: 3
  • UCF: 3
Somebody else looked at the list and posted this:

ACC: Syracuse, Wake Forest, NC State, Boston College, Duke
Big 10: Rutgers, Purdue, Minnesota, Northwestern
SEC: Kentucky, Vanderbilt
All Big 12 schools made it, and to my surprise all Pac-12 schools did as well.

Wake Forest woulda made it in 2006 as the ACC champs

Maryland is missing they woulda made it as well winning the ACC title in 2001.

Virginia missing as well they woulda made it in 1998

Tulane woulda made it as the G5 in 1998 as well. The G5 is off. Marshall woulda been the rep in 1999. Miami Ohio in 2003 Hawaii in 2007 Northerm Illinois in 2012

I’m not gonna look into this whole list but just from those few I was able to point out without really looking it up I’m assuming this list sucks. Guessing they probably just took the top 12 and didn’t factor conference champs or anything else in. But they completely left off a couple P5 teams.

Wake Forest would not have made it in 2006 using the final bcs rankings

You can’t just use the top 12 from the BCS cause that’s not how the 12 team playoff we have actually works.

They weren't in the top 12 and they weren't one of the 5 highest ranked conference champs.

How else would you judge it?

This would be the year some jerkoff like BYU or SMU wins it all.
Ill Allow It Spanish GIF

I could see something like this considering the biggies don't seem to have any team that looks like they are head and shoulders against everyone else. IMO teams like those two are at the mercy of injury. How healthy they come into the playoffs will be a huge factor. Teams like those normally don't have the depth the biggies do.

LOL have you seen Oregon play? The Ducks are taking this thing

Me too. I'd like to see them go the FCS route and play all games except the championship on campuses.
I wouldn't mind a semifinal at a bowl site, but 3 straight games at neutral site on relatively short notice is rough.

I suppose this happens for March madness as well but you've got more teams per site

I have. While you consider Oregon superior, I put them dead even with Ohio State. Play the game at the Shoe, it may have been a 1 point Ohio State win. I would put Boise in the group OSU put SMU BYU in. Similar.

BYU went toe to toe with your beloved Duckies. So it isn't very far out of the realm of possibility for those type teams to win some CFP games. Even a team like Colorado could give defenses a case of the shits which would give them a chance....depending on the matchup.

And LOL at me for discussing something with OD.

Byu hasn't gone toe to toe with Oregon in a long time

I'm just a campus stadium advocate over a bowl site. I'd like to see the four bye schools host a second round game at their stadium instead of a bowl site. I know that would give the winners of first round games two away games. But a bowl game is away too. More people are in your camp regarding the bowls. The arrogance of the Rose Bowl turned me off to bowls. I guess I shouldn't throw all bowls into the arrogant/holier than thou Rose Bowl group.

Sure seem they don't care about travel expenses for fans. Especially if West Coast teams end up in the Orange and vice versa for the Rose. I do think they provide some travel expenses for players parents don't they?
