Well pump the brakes a bit. Michigan had only 4 returning starters on defense, and compared to the 1 on offense that's a lot, and of the 4 we had returning, two are elite, but that's still a lot of new players to break in. It's also an entirely new staff on defense. Texas was exploiting the guy (I don't even know his name) opposite of Will Johnson all day. Defense has also been our best recruited position, so it has a bit more depth than the offensive side of the ball (a lot more depth actually).
So the unit looks pretty good as is but I still think there's a lot of room for them to improve..that was likely one of the best teams we face the entire year (and a team favored to win the national title this year), if not THE best, and we played them in game 2.
Michigan doesn't need an elite offense like last year, we need to work on achieving an average one and we'll be fine.
